Dads Raising Kinder & Financially Smart Kids

Do you want to raise nice kids? How about kids smart with their money? What about both? Brett Ellen, President and CEO of American Financial Network (AFN), and co-founder of TURN KINDNESS ON is dedicated to teaching children how to be philanthropic and financially responsible.

WHO WE ARE:
Turn Kindness On (TKO) is a non-profit organization that brings parents and children together to build a lifelong relationship with community service. Founded in 2001 by the Ellen family - Mandy, Brett, and their sons Keanu (12 yrs) and Tristen (10 yrs) - TKO donors and volunteers believe we can build a better world by harnessing children’s compassion and energy and empowering them to make a change.

WHAT WE DO:
TKO coordinates local community service events that raise much-needed funds to assist under-served communities domestically and internationally. TKO’s engaging programs are developed for children and parents to encourage philanthropy and volunteerism as family activities.

HOW WE DO IT:
Generous contributions from our donors, active volunteers, and like-minded partnerships allow TKO to develop meaningful and engaging events.

WHY WE DO IT:
At TKO we believe the best way to teach our children about the power of service is to engage them in meaningful projects at an early age. We want to help raise a kinder generation that values philanthropy and volunteerism and will continue community service throughout their lives.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
TKO welcomes volunteers of all ages who share a passion for community service and helping under-served communities.

New Community Service program improves K-12 schools

Barren classrooms prompt a new kind of
holiday gift for teachers

A nonprofit, ClassWish.org, offers an easy gift that is needed, meaningful, and tax-deductible

Devastating budget cuts have left most schools without the supplies our children need to succeed.  Books, computers, art supplies, musical instruments, and science gear are all in desperately short supply.  Many schools do not even have paper for the copiers and printers.

The situation is so dire that devoted teachers spend an average of $1,200 a year of their own money to provide just some of the basics students need to explore their potential and thrive.

In challenging times like these, yet another coffee mug, picture frame or fruitcake is not the holiday gift teachers really want.

A new nonprofit, ClassWish.org, presents a solution:  Thank The Teacher Gift Cards, which can be redeemed for classroom supplies.  This welcome gift lets parents take the financial burden off of teachers and also helps children—including their own.  Imagine the impact as we channel to classrooms some of the hundreds of millions of dollars normally spent each year buying traditional presents for teachers.

Thank The Teacher Gift Cards from ClassWish.org offer yet another benefit: since they represent donations to a nonprofit, they are tax-deductible. Now, that is something no traditional gift or gift certificate can offer.

Parents can order Thank The Teacher Gift Cards from ClassWish.org/TeacherGifts.  Teachers can visit the site to redeem them for the classroom resources they and their students need.

These ClassWish.org Thank The Teacher Gift Cards are needed, they are appreciated, they are smart, and they make a big statement: that we care about our kids and their dedicated teachers.

This holiday season you can do more than just give a gift—you can show you really care.

The Shriners are a brotherhood of men committed to family, engaged in ongoing personal growth and providing care for children and families in need. While their backgrounds and interests may be diverse, Shriners are bound together through shared values and a desire to have fun, do good and build bonds that last a lifetime. The Shriners fraternity believes in:
