Halloween is Now Less Scary for Parents of Children with Allergies!

Halloween is Now Less Scary for Parents of Children with Allergies!

AllerMates® Allergy & Health Alert Wristbands, Dog Tags, Stickers and Other Products Available for Trick-or-Treaters

Available in Walgreens

Parents of kids with allergies and asthma can take comfort in knowing their children can be a little safer this Halloween thanks to AllerMates® products: bright, easy-to-see wristbands, dog tags and stickers to help make the people around them – at school, around the neighborhood, at others’ homes – aware of their ailment.

A child reaching for that peanut candy while trick-or-treating just might be reminded or remind their caregiver of his or her peanut allergy with the P. Nutty wristband, one of 15 fun, original characters that represent the most common allergies: peanut, nut, gluten/wheat, milk, egg, shellfish, penicillin, insect sting, latex, pollen, fish, soy, sesame and cat, and also asthma.

THE STORY
Iris Shamus, a mother of a child with multiple food allergies was frustrated by the lack of allergy-related kid-friendly products, so she took action and created AllerMates, a new line of bright, fun, whimsical character-driven wristbands, dog tags, stickers and lunch boxes that young children would happily embrace. AllerMates has recently added medical alert products to their lineup with the recent release of their “Puffer” asthma wristband. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Puffer” will be donated to asthma research.

Product Review - AllerMates - For Kids With Allergies

About the Product
A mother of a child with multiple food allergies was frustrated by the lack of allergy-related kid-friendly products so she took action and created AllerMates®, a new line of bright, fun, whimsical character-driven wristbands, dog tags and lunch boxes that her son would happily embrace.

Parents of children with allergies can now enjoy the safety and security of knowing their young ones are better protected against unwanted allergens when they wear or use AllerMates products away from home in places like school, daycare, parties, sleep-overs and summer camp. AllerMates arrive in time for Food Allergy Awareness Week, May 13-19 and for camp and summer travel.

AllerMates products are based on 14 fun, original characters that represent the most common allergies: peanut, nut, gluten/wheat, milk, egg, shellfish, penicillin, insect sting, latex, pollen, fish, soy, sesame and cat. The characters and product line was created by Iris Shamus, Founder and CEO of AllerMates, in part to help kids feel positive about their allergies.

“No matter how many forms I signed or how many times I spoke to the teacher the inevitable happened” states Iris Shamus, AllerMates Founder. “My son and another allergic classmate were offered food they weren’t supposed to have. It didn’t go well. So, I set out to create something more personalized so that a teacher or caregiver would always be aware of his allergies,” continues Shamus. “AllerMates wristbands gave me a sense of comfort and security I couldn’t have without them.

Even with posters like nut-free zone or dairy-free zone around a classroom, AllerMates is designed to present a more personalized, visual representation of specific allergies. When a child raises his or hand or carries an AllerMates lunch bag there is that distinctive visually appealing character as a constant reminder to be on alert.

AllerMates products are hypo-allergenic, nickel and latex free and have passed rigorous safety standards and testing. The wristbands are adjustable and fit most children. The AllerMates Gang characters are:

  • P. Nutty (Peanut Allergy)
  • Nutso (Nut Allergy)
  • Professor Wheatley (Gluten / Wheat Allergy)
  • Pint (Milk Allergy)
  • Eggie (Egg Allergy)
  • Crabby (Shellfish Allergy)
  • Super-Cillin (Penicillin Allergy)
  • Bizzy (Insect Sting Allergy)
  • Dr. Strangeglove (Latex Allergy)
  • Drift (Pollen Allergy)
  • Detective Fin (Fish Allergy)
  • Soy Cool (Soy Allergy)
  • Teeni Tahini (Sesame Allergy)
  • Nine (Cat Allergy)
The AllerMates website (www.allermates.com ) offers both parents and children easy to read and understand tips, facts and general information about allergies as well as lots of fun games and activities based on the line of AllerMates characters. The website also has a fully functional social community allowing its members free and easy interaction and sharing of the latest blogs, news, videos and information within the allergy community. You can meet the AllerMates Gang there and get the back story on each character as well as fun tips (did you know a peanut isn’t actually a nut … it’s a legume).

AllerMates products can be purchased at www.allermates.com , at Amazon.com and at independent retailers throughout the U.S. as well as stores in Canada, United Kingdom, Portugal and South America. Look for AllerMates products at national retailers this summer.

My Take on the Product
These bands were so creative! We got to see and try out the Peanut Allergy band. First and foremost the bands were easy to attach and they have different snaps for different sized wrists which was great. I also loved the characters that represent the different medical issues that a child can possess. The characters make the issues light, and fun (as much as they can be). In asking my wife, she stated that she liked that is was a durable, visual way to bring awareness to a child's allergy. The characters are super cute and are very fun for kids. Even a child who is too young to express themselves, all they have to do is simply hold up their arm and an adult can tell what allergies that the child has. This was a great product for any child with allergies!

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day - Tofutti Cuties Offers an Alternative

Did you know that today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day?

While the day will give Americans yet another reason to enjoy a frozen treat (July is National Ice Cream Month, and July 17 was National Ice Cream Day), there are also millions of adults and children who are allergic to dairy or choose a healthy, dairy-free, cholesterol-free lifestyle.Tofutti Brands Inc. makes it possible for all to have a refreshing, soothing ice cream treat this summer. It produces more than 80 dairy-free foods including frozen desserts, cheese products and prepared dishes.

So, today everyone can enjoy an ice cream sandwich with Tofutti Cuties - mini dairy-free ice cream sandwiches, available in Vanilla, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Wild Berry flavors, as well as non-chocolate options include Totally Vanilla and Key Lime Cutie.

  • The company’s best selling product, Tofutti Cuties® are bite size frozen dairy-free ice cream sandwiches. Free of butterfat cholesterol and non-hydrogenated fat, they have the same great taste people love about ice cream sandwiches. Half the size of traditional ice cream sandwiches, Tofutti Cuties® offer consumers a portion control treat. They currently come in Vanilla, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Wild Berry flavors, filling between two chocolate wafers. There are also non-chocolate options with Totally Vanilla Tofutti Cutie (vanilla Tofutti between two vanilla wafers), and Key Lime Cutie (combines tangy lime flavored Tofutti between two vanilla wafers).

My Take on the ProductI have to say that these ice cream sandwiches were delicious! I did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did not taste a huge difference. One of the things that I really liked about these was that they had lower calories and less fat than regular ice cream sandwiches! I ended up trying the chocolate chip and was very happy with the overall taste as I know you will be as well! With all of this said, I highly recommend these for all!
