About the Book
The thoroughly moving books in the Born Free series tell the stories of wild animals around the world that have been saved from a lifetime of cruelty and suffering.

The Born Free Foundation's mission is to protect many different species in their natural habitats, working with local communities to make sure that people and wildlife can live together peacefully. In Dolphin Rescue, children will meet Tom and Misha, a pair of dolphins that lived in a small, dirty swimming pool until the Born Free Foundation stepped in to save them. Parents will be intrigued by these books as they recall Born Free, the movie that inspired a generation. In it, they learned the story of Elsa, an orphaned lion cub that was brought up by Joy and George Adamson (portrayed by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna in the movie and the founders of the Born Free Foundation) and released back into the wild. Children will be inspired as they read how the Born Free Foundation comes to the rescue, saving suffering animals and giving them their well-deserved happy endings. Both parents and children will find the stories in these books wonderful conversation starters about life, compassion, taking a stand for what you believe in, and making the world a better place.

My Take on the Book
Here is another excellent book for children written by Virginia McKenna.
In this story two bottle nose dolphins named Tom and Misha were captured off the coast of Turkey. They were placed in the chlorine saturated pool in a Dolphin show on the coast of turkey.

Dolphins are intelligent animals. They have feelings like humans. Tom and Misha were together but it was not a life a dolphin should have.

Born Free Foundation sounded the alarm and many people came to protest what was happening with Tom and Misha. Thanks to many people and specialists, Tom and Misha were placed in an ocean environment to rehabilitate. Because of the dedication of many, the dolphins were released into the wild once again.

Virginia McKenna supplies the reader with valuable information about dolphins and their needs. It is a story worth reading to your child. You will both enjoy the photographs included in the book.
