About the Book
What if Aladdin had never found the lamp? This first book in the A Twisted Tale line will explore a dark and daring version of Disney's Aladdin.
When Jafar steals the Genie's lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war.
My Take on the Book
This is another great twisted tale from a great author. We have loved reading along with these tales as the author has been unveiling them. She creates similar yet different worlds that you can get lost in, and as a fan of the original story, I was excited to see what she could do with this.
I was not disappointed by this book though, as I was not in the other two books that I read as well. You do have to stay open to the differences and to see Aladdin in a new way as he is not the same street rat that you know from the Disney movie. That being said he was still a ton of fun as a character and all of the other characters add depth to the story in general.
The concept of this and Aladdin not finding the lamp was a novel concept, and while it did not change the way I feel about the movie, it did allow me to see the characters from the movie and the characters, new and old a bit differently that I had in the past.
This was a fun books with definite twists and turns that will keep you guessing, but in the end you have a solid story that is a compelling read!
