Book Review - Table Talk: Questions and Quotes to Start Hundreds of Great Family Discussions on Patriotism, Values, Fun, and Faith

About the Book
Nothing has a greater or more lasting impact on children than their parents, yet our society tries to weaken that influence. Talking and teaching are two things best done at home. Using hundreds of fun questions and quotes from this book, watch as your family comes together to discuss the most important issues of life---patriotism, values, fun, faith, and more.

Table Talk is filled with fun as well as insightful questions to help families accomplish 2 important goals.

  1. Assist in establishing healthy lines of communication in your family. These communications lines are especially crucial during the challenges our children will certainly face. As children develop a pattern of talking with their parents, they will be able to turn to their parents in times of great need. You will be amazed at how the questions and quotes contained in this book will bring out meaningful discussions. In a lighthearted yet interesting manner, this book presents questions that will help your family get to know each other and explore ideas.
  2. Help your family identify, crystallize, and transmit family values and expectations. Children are “dished up” and “served” many positive and negative values each day from so many different sources. In today’s society, we as parents must be careful to ensure those values are consistent with our family’s beliefs and goals. Making an effort to better communicate will ensure that our families’ values are the most prevalent and powerful.

My Take on the Book
I love the concept of being able to talk as a family, and for mine the dinner table is definitely one place where this happens. Sometimes it takes a little more effort than others but it is always something that we strive for and practice. What I love about this book was the fact that is set up to assist a family with either starting a conversation among family members had not yet begun, or provides additional support for conversations that are already occurring. The book is short and sweet but the questions within our so meaningful and opened the door for dialogue that will last much longer than the meal itself. I believe that using the questions in this book will help to set a great example for all families to be able to show that all views are important in that conversations between family members are valued and important.
