CALLING ALL PASSIONATE YOUTH WHO ARE LEADERS IN SERVICE AND VOLUNTEERING

generationOn, the global youth service movement igniting the power of all kids to make their mark on the world, is searching for ten inspiring youth leaders from middle and high schools across the nation to form the first-ever generationOn Youth Advisory Council. Applications are being accepted now through February 4th at www.generationon.org/global/big-happenings/youth-advisory-council.

The generationOn Youth Advisory Council will offer ten youth from diverse backgrounds a chance to participate in a national leadership development program, while acting as ambassadors for generationOn and serving as leaders in their own communities. The Council is being created to elevate youth voice and contribute to generationOn programming, while providing young people with a unique opportunity to be drivers of their own ideas from conceptualization to implementation and reflection.

“The generationOn Youth Advisory Council offers a remarkable opportunity for young people to demonstrate their strong commitment to service and volunteerism, and inspire and mobilize other kids to take action in their communities,” said Christopher Caruso, Executive Director of generationOn. “With a $5 million commitment from the Hasbro Children’s Fund, generationOn has been able to launch a movement that helps all kids, regardless of their age, to develop as empowered and creative problem-solvers and leaders.”

generationOn is looking for young people between the ages of 13-18 who are interested in partnering with other youth from around the country who are passionate about making a difference. Council members will be required to demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism, philanthropy and generationOn’s mission, which is “to inspire, equip, and mobilize youth to take action that changes the world and themselves through service.”  Members will also be encouraged to represent generationOn at conferences and special events.

Students interested in applying should be enrolled in middle or high school (6th – 11th grade), live in the United States and be available to travel March 18-22 (all expenses paid). Community, youth, and faith-based organizations and educators are invited to encourage youth who are interested in applying to fill out an online application which can be found at www.generationon.org/global/big-happenings/youth-advisory-council. The 2011 Youth Advisory Council members will be announced in late February, 2011.
