About the Book
It’s back to school for grownups and kids alike. Available today through September 10th.Check out the write up of Laura’s book in this weekend’s edition of USA Today Weekend.

Ever wish you’d paid more attention in math class? We’ve all been there: Staring at two different brands of laundry detergent, wondering which is the best deal, trying to size up Mom’s tomato sauce recipe for a party of 10, or figuring out the fuel efficiency of that new car.  The fact is math crops up in a variety of everyday settings—from the grocery store to the craft room. But you don’t need to break into a sweat when it’s time to calculate a tip. Forget higher calculus—you just need an open mind.

MATH FOR GROWNUPS: Relearn the Arithmetic You Forgot From School by Laura Laing makes math manageable, by providing an adult refresher and real-life context for math—with examples ranging from calculating your monthly mortgage payment, to figuring out if that new refrigerator will fit in an old kitchen. As a teacher and self-proclaimed math-evangelist, Laura Laing offers tips on overcoming the white-knuckled panic that many grownups experience when numbers enter their everyday life.  She takes swipes at the myths that most people believe about math and offers easy ways for individuals to tap into their inner math geek.

My Take on the Book
I have always been challenged by Math. When I was in school myself, Math was the one subject that I had to work very hard to understand the concepts and now that my daughter is in school I know that I will need to refresh my own math abilities if I am to help her along the way. This book was a great book as it allowed me to remember some of the math that I have forgotten and has helped me to figure out how to do these types of problems yet again. As I am working though this book, I am definitely hoping to keep this book to go through yet again as my girls go through their education and will look to me to help them as they get stuck along the way.
