DVD Review - Henry's Crime

About the Movie
He’s done the time, now he might as well do the crime. Acclaimed indie filmmaker Malcolm Venville (44 Inch Chest) directs an all-star cast in the outrageous crime caper HENRY’S CRIME, which was released on  Blu-ray and DVD on August 23 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

“With a terrific cast led by Keanu Reeves (The Matrix Trilogy), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and a splendid James Caan (Misery), HENRY’S CRIME is a fun comedy with irresistible heist and heart” (Boxoffice Magazine). Reeves stars as Henry Torne, a wrongly accused man who winds up behind bars for a bank robbery he didn’t commit. After befriending a charismatic lifer (Caan) in prison, Henry finds his purpose — having done the time, he decides he may as well do the crime. But his outlandish plan to rob the very same bank spins wildly out of control, as he finds himself performing in a stage play and falling in love with the production’s seductive leading lady (Farmiga).

Featuring outstanding supporting performances from Judy Greer (Love and Other Drugs), Bill Duke (Night at the Musuem) and Peter Stormare (Constantine), HENRY’S CRIME will be available as a single-disc Blu-ray and single-disc DVD on August 23.

My Take on the Movie
Keanu Reeves stars as Henry Torne. He works in a toll booth in Buffalo , New York. It is evident he is not particularly happy with his life and neither is his wife. He becomes involved in a bank robbery , through no fault of his own, and is put in prison. He is actually happy to be here. It appears he does not know what he wants from life and becomes content. Hi wife divorces him and that does not even seem to bother him. Here is a man with no purpose in life.

James Caan, plays his cell mate and they decide after much discussion, after Henry is released from prison, to rob the bank Henry did not rob. Henry actually has a goal. You see his character become excited for the first time. He begins to change into a man with a purpose.

In order to rob the bank, he must become an actor. Once again Henry learns he has a gift he thought he did not possess and his growth in that area begins. He meets a woman and falls in love.. For the first time in Henry's life he becomes goal orientated and you see a change in his personality.

It is an interesting story about a man who shows us we too can change and grow and not be content in our mundane lives. I am not advocating robbing a bank of course, but finding your own challenges that will help you change and grow in life. What is your life's purpose ?
