Book Review - Bridging Differences for Better Mentoring: Lean Forward, Learn, Leverage
About the Book
This first comprehensive guide to helping mentors and mentees bridge gaps between and among cultures--a growing issue in today's diverse workplace--is coauthored by the founder and CEO of the Center for Mentoring Excellence.
As the workplace has become more diverse, mentoring has become more challenging. Mentors and mentees may come from very different backgrounds and have limited understanding of each other's cultures and outlooks. But mentoring remains the most powerful tool for creating meaningful relationships, furthering professional development, and increasing engagement and retention. Younger workers and emerging leaders in particular are demanding it.
Lisa Z. Fain and Lois J. Zachary offer a timely, evidence-based, practical guide for helping mentors develop the level of cultural competency needed to bridge differences. Firmly rooted in Zachary's well-known four-part mentoring model, the book uses three fictional scenarios featuring three pairs of diverse mentors and mentees to illustrate how key concepts can play out in real life. It offers an array of accessible tools and strategies designed to help you increase your self-awareness and prepare you to embrace and leverage differences in your mentoring relationships. But beyond tips and techniques, Fain and Zachary emphasize that authenticity is the key--the ultimate purpose of this book is to help the mentor and mentee make a genuine connection and learn from each other. That's when the magic really happens.
My Take on the Book
This is a powerful book that really dives deep on the topic of mentoring. The book really shines a light on some of the blind spots when it comes to being both a mentor and mentee. If you are a leader that looks to mentor others or a mentee, this is a great resource! What I loved about the book is that it is a hands-on book that walks you towards better mentoring. As someone that has mentored others this would have been a great guide to have at the time that I first started to mentor others. If you are looking to up your mentoring skills, this is a book that you need to read!

Book Review - Zatanna and the House of Secrets
About the Book
Welcome to the magical, mystical, topsy-turvy world of the House of Secrets, where Zatanna embarks on a journey of self-discovery and adventure ... all with her pet rabbit, Pocus, at her side
Zatanna and her professional magician father live in a special house, the House of Secrets, which is full of magic, puzzles, mysterious doors, and storybook creatures--it's the house everyone in the neighborhood talks about but avoids. Not that Zatanna cares, though, because she is perfectly content.
But at school one day, Zatanna stands up to a bully and everything changes ... including her friends. Suddenly, Zatanna isn't so sure about her place in the world, and when she returns home to tell her father, he's gone missing, lost within their own home.
With thrilling twists from writer Matthew Cody and dazzling artwork by Yoshi Yoshitani, Zatanna and the House of Secrets will delight readers at the turn of every page--and the opening of every door!
My Take on the Book
This was such a fun book with magic, mystery and great characters. You will not see everything coming and you will stay on the edge of your seat, I know I did. My daughter and I loved the artwork in this as it really drew you into the story from beginning to end! This is a book you will not want to miss!

Book Review - What About Worms
About the Book
Tiger is big. Tiger is tough. And Tiger has an important note for you.
Dear Reader,
WATCH OUT FOR WORMS! They are everywhere! They might even be in this book!
Your friend,
Tiger
P. S. Tiger is afraid of worms.
My Take on the Book
This was a cute book that shows how you might be afraid of something when the fear really is nothing to fear and you might even find that you really like the thing that you fear, you just have to give them a chance. The illustrations throughout the book were wonderful and really drew you into the book from beginning to end. If you love Elephant and Piggy books, you will love this as well!
