Book Review - Papa Bear's Page Fright

Papa Bear's Page Fright

About the Book
This is the story of a little girl named Goldilocks. Well, that's what it's supposed to be, but there's a problem. When Papa Bear discovers he's inside of a book and there are readers out there looking at him, he gets very nervous and forgets his lines. Poor Papa Bear . . . he has Page Fright! Can Mama Bear, Baby Bear, and Goldilocks help him find the courage to remember his lines and finish the story?

  • 32 pages.
  • Full-color picture book.
  • Hardcover with dust jacket.
  • Book measures 11-1/4 inches wide by 8-3/4 inches high.

Author Wade Bradford was born and raised in rainy Washington state but eventually decided to move to sunny California to dry out a bit. He is the author of several picture books, and over 30 plays for children. He has never eaten porridge, hot or cold. Mary Ann Fraser has written and illustrated many books for children, including No Yeti Yet. Her awards include Junior Library Guild Selections, School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, Book Links Book of the Year, IRA Young Reader's Choice Award, and American Booksellers ''Pick of the List.'' She lives in Simi Valley, California with her husband Todd, her three boys, 17 turtles, and a geriatric newt.
My Take on the Book
Most children are familiar with the story of GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS. This story will make you laugh and your child will want it read repeatedly. Papa Bear cannot help himself as he forgets his lines in the story . He is embarrassed as he realizes people are watching him (the people reading the story). As he tries to run away from the story and his embarrassment, he enters a story about a knight and a dragon, the Wizard of Oz and the race of the hare and tortoise. Poor Papa Bear.

Goldilocks and Baby Bear try to save the story, but it is Mama Bear who actually does.

Goldilocks is upset because her story is ruined, but in the end Papa Bear finally is able to become part of the real story again.

The illustrations are great and work well with this funny story.
