About the Book
The thoroughly moving books in the Born Free series tell the stories of wild animals around the world that have been saved from a lifetime of cruelty and suffering.

The Born Free Foundation's mission is to protect many different species in their natural habitats, working with local communities to make sure that people and wildlife can live together peacefully. In Elephant Rescue, children will meet Nina and Pinky, two elephants that survived terrible misfortunes and were trapped in captivity…until the Born Free Foundation stepped in to save them. Parents will be intrigued by these books as they recall Born Free, the movie that inspired a generation. In it, they learned the story of Elsa, an orphaned lion cub that was brought up by Joy and George Adamson (portrayed by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna in the movie and the founders of the Born Free Foundation) and released back into the wild. Children will be inspired as they read how the Born Free Foundation comes to the rescue, saving suffering animals and giving them their well-deserved happy endings. Both parents and children will find the stories in these books wonderful conversation starters about life, compassion, taking a stand for what you believe in, and making the world a better place.

My Take on the Book
This book is about two elephant babies. Elephant babies are similar to human babies because the both need their mothers to survive. Most of the book describes the life of Nina.

Nina lost her family at a very young age. She spent 27 years in captivity. She was the only elephant in a small space. Nina became frustrated and lonely. Due to the efforts of Born Free and other people she was finally relocated to the George Adamson Wildlife Preserve. Nina learned to adjust in her new environment and had a baby of her own.

Pinkie was a baby elephant who fell in a quarry. If it was not for the compassion of a local village man, she would have died. The Elephant Transit Home was able to help Pinkie heal. She was able to return to the wild environment.

Two wonderful stories of humans helping wild animals. You will enjoy the stories and photographs.
