About the Book
Mouthwatering BBQ from a community treasure. Savannah natives and tourists alike have been enjoying Johnny Harris's famed barbecue since 1924. Photos, stories, and hearty recipes bring the landmark's distinctive history and flavors into the home kitchen. Recipes include entrĂ¯es such as Sweet and Spicy Short Ribs and Spicy Buttermilk Fried Chicken with delicious sides of Garlic Cheddar Grits and Savannah Creamed Corn to round out the menu.

My Take on the Book
The history behind the Johnny Harris restaurant is so interesting. John Harris took a chance and opened a restaurant. He was so successful even during the depression. You will enjoy seeing the old photos of the people and the restaurant. There are photos of the family/owners today.

I found the cookbook to have a nice variety of recipes. There were drinks, appetizers, (the White Bean Bruschetta made with goat cheese is worth preparing), salads, soups and stews, vegetables, desserts, and main dishes.

If you like Brussel Sprouts you will enjoy making the Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Walnuts. So easy to prepare too.

The Maple Glazed Salmon was delicious. It used grapefruit juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, maple syrup, and garlic. The fish was very flavorful and this recipe was so easy to prepare.

Each recipe was well written. The preparation was easy to follow. Most recipes used ingredients you may already have in your pantry . The photographs by Mary Britton Senseney will encourage you to prepare as many of these delicious recipes as possible.
