About the Product
Love a hearty, stick-to-your ribs bowl of hot oatmeal, but don’t have time to cook on a busy morning? Thanks to Bobo’s Oat Bars, the Boulder, Colorado-based maker of delicious, chewy oat-based bars, you can get the satisfying, nutrient and fiber dense goodness of oats in a delicious to-go version. January is National Oatmeal Month and Bobo’s Oat Bars makes it easy have a

satisfying, portable oat breakfast or snack on hand with its wide variety of hand-baked, all-natural, gluten-free and vegan breakfast /snack bars. Made with the finest organic, wheat-free and gluten-free non-GMO ingredients, Bobo’s Oat Bars are available in 16 chewy, gooey and nutritious flavors for oatmeal lovers who need their fix, even on the run.

This month, it seems like everyone is talking about New Year resolutions and ways to lose weight and eat healthier with whole grains like oats. But let’s be honest, while oatmeal on its own is a great low-cal choice for breakfast, plain cooked oats are bland and can be gummy if not cooked properly. In addition, we tend to doctor oatmeal up with a large helping of all sorts of yummy ingredients to help us choke it down. The next thing you know, the once-benign bowl is suddenly packing on the calories, according to Angela B. Moore, MS RD, a Denver-based nutritionist and exercise physiologist.
“A half cup of oatmeal with one tablespoon butter and two tablespoons of maple syrup or brown sugar runs about 355 calories, with 22 grams of refined sugar and 11 grams of fat, 7 of which is saturated, plus any other add-ons like dried fruits and nuts you like,” Moore explains. “Very few people will just eat a bowl of plain oatmeal. It’s like bread – it’s what you put on it that makes it delicious and satisfying.”

Moore recommends the health benefits of oats but also acknowledges busy schedules and the propensity to snack.

“I think an oat-based snack bar is perfect for today’s busy lifestyle, but many bars are loaded with sugar and fat which almost negates the health benefits of the oats. Read the label carefully for nutritionals. Also, if it doesn’t taste good, it doesn’t matter how easy or healthy it is, you won’t eat it. ”

Bobo’s Oat Bars nutritionals vary slightly depending on flavor, but the Original regular sized bar, for example, contains 360 calories and 12 grams of fat, of which only 3 grams is saturated, and brown rice syrup in place of refined sugar. Bobo’s Bites contain about half these amounts. And there’s something for everyone. For adults looking for a quick breakfast or post-workout snack, the Bobo’s team recommends Maple Pecan, Banana, Cinnamon Raisin and Lemon Poppyseed. Chocolate,Almond, Coconut and Strawberry are ideal options for afternoon snack breaks.

For kids, or for a less filling adult snack than the full bars, the Bobo’s Bites are the perfect addition to a lunchbox or as a snack on the way to after-school activities, for those 3 p.m. munchies at your desk or in the glove box when you’re stuck in traffic. Kids love the PB&J, Original and Apple Pie flavors, which are half the size of the original Bobo’s Oat Bars and come in a box of five bites.

So, don’t ditch the oats if you’re too busy - “tote your oats”!

My Take on the Product
As someone that has always liked eating oatmeal and mixing in oats into baked goods and other things, these bars sounded delicious and in trying them I was not mistaken in my initial outward thought. That being said, I was really impressed with not only the taste, but also the ingredients, as these bars are chock-full of natural-goodness, and you really are able to get filled up by just eating one of these bars, and you are not being burdened with huge amounts of calories either. The snacks are portable and I can easily see myself sharing these bars within my kids lunches too. If you have never tried these yourself, I highly recommend them!
