Book Review - TIME For Kids Book of Why - Really Cool People & Places
About the Book
TIME for Kids The BIG Book of Why: People and Places answers the why, what, when, where, who and how questions about people and places in history that kids commonly ask, but adults can rarely answer. Why did the Maya build pyramids? Did Vikings really have horns on their helmets? Why did Christopher Columbus sail to America? Why did the Titanic sink? Why is the London Bridge in Arizona?
Written in an upbeat manner, each answer is accompanied by either a photo or an illustration to show the reasons why. Of course, TIME For Kids goes beyond answering the question, and dips into the science or history to further explain the answer in an easy-to-follow, straightforward manner.
TIME for Kids The BIG Book of Why: People and Places is a must-have book to satisfy the most curious of kids.
My Take on the Book
This book was written for children but as an adult I learned so much. The content has some difficult words so an older child could read it independently but a younger child would certainly enjoy this with an adult reader.
I thought it was interesting that the Viking Lief Erickson landed in America in 1002 hundreds of years before Christopher Columbus was given the credit for that endeavor.
I did not know the first book printed by the Gutenberg Press in 1440 was the Bible. Some guess he produced 180 copies and some are still in existence.
So much information but this last one I am sharing because I have ridden across the bridge in San Francisco, CA. The Golden Gate Bridge can swing sideways up to 27 feet. The builder, Joseph Strauss, made sure it could withstand earthquakes and high winds.
Whether you are a child or an adult, I believe you will enjoy reading this book.
