Book Review - Scaredy Kate
About the Book
Kate has a problem. She's terrified of her aunt's big bulldog. Kate's aunt calls the dog Cookie…Kate calls it a monster! One day, after fleeing the apartment to escape Cookie, Kate takes the strangest elevator ride ever--complete with a mysterious package and floor after floor of real-life monsters! On the top floor, all the monsters exit the elevator for an unexpected treat. But they're missing one special ingredient…guess who has it? Kate has just the thing to top off the monster's favorite snack. It takes all of her courage, but she manages to share with the monsters, and finds that they aren't so scary after all! Kate makes some new friends, and she discovers the perfect way to tame her own personal beast. This warmly written, beautifully illustrated book is certain to be a favorite among all children (and adults) who have been afraid at one time or another.
About the Author
Jacob Grant grew up in Ohio, but now lives with his wife in a very windy city in Illinois. He graduated magna cum laude from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2006 and today works day and night in his home studio crafting absurd and heartfelt picture books. Scaredy Kate is his first book. Jacob is scared of many things, but is quite fond of dogs.
My Take on the Book
This was a very cute book that has a great message. I love that it talks to the fact every person has their fears but that your fears may not be what you first think. Also, in the end it shares that if you face your fears you may just find that the fear is not that bad and that you are much stronger than you first believed. Combine this with great illustrations and you have an amazing overall story.
