Book Review - Ghost in the House
About the Book
Boo! Watch out for this rollicking, cumulative counting book for a Hallowe'en treat that's more playful than scary. When a little ghost goes slip-sliding down the hallway, he suddenly hears...a groan! Turns out it's only a friendly mummy, who shuffles along with the ghost, until they encounter...a monster! As the cautious explorers continue, they find a surprise at every turn - and add another adorably ghoulish friend to their tally. But you'll never guess who is the scariest creature in the house! A very young - and not too scary! - story featuring a witch, a ghost, a skeleton, a mummy and a monster...Wow! Perfect for Hallowe'en - or any other dark spooky night in the cozy bedtime shadows! It covers cumulative and rhyming text that kids will want to hear over and over again.
My Take on the Book
When one reads about ghosts and goblins, we think of children becoming frightened. This story has an interesting twist because the ghost is friendly, the mummy is smiling, the monster is cute, and the skeleton is happy. Instead of the child being afraid, the child scares the ghost, mummy, monster, witch, and skeleton.
The illustrations by Adam Record are so detailed. The emotions of the characters throughout their encounters are funny . You will laugh at the facial expressions.
I believe you will enjoy the twist of the story and humor it will bring to your reading.
