About the Book
October 5th is national "Do something nice day" and there is a fun and interesting book that tells you where "nice" gestures and sayings come from, The Book of Nice: A Nice Book About Nice Things for Nice People. The Book of Nice is a compulsive and chunky book for lovers of trivia, popular culture, and history, by Josh Chetwynd [Workman Publishing; April 9, 2013; $8.95; Paperback]. It's an entertaining compendium of 164 signs, practices, and expressions we often take for granted.

Some fun facts explored in the book include...

  • Emperors and playwrights used to pay good money for a loud round of applause.
  • A toast was a host’s way of showing that his wine wasn’t poisoned.
  • The high five was the product of an awkward moment between two baseball players.
  • You can thank none other than Cary Grant for that little mint on your hotel pillow.

My Take on the Book
This was a fascinating book that even after reading it once I want to go back and read again! The book is filled with very interesting facts that I was completely unaware of and I left reading this so much more informed! What I really loved about the book is that it is so positive and covers so many things that just make you smile. I have to say that no matter what type of day that you have had this is the type of day that will brighten it up!
