Book Review - Let's Pretend This Never Happened

About the Book
What makes Lawson and her work so widely appealing? Her irreverent blog, www.bloggess.com, averages millions of page views a month and she is one of the most popular bloggers on Twitter with 313,000+ followers, growing daily. She’s an internet celebrity in her own right, cyber-hobnobbing with the likes of Wil Wheaton and Simon Pegg, and considering Rosie O’Donnell and author Stephanie Meyer fans. **Jesus finds her “Adorably offensive” and she owns a five-foot tall metal chicken (an anniversary gift to her husband) named BeyoncĂ©. Perhaps Jenny’s seemingly random, darkly comic stories speak to the rebel in each of us. Who else but Jenny can go on CNN to discuss the “Mommy Wars” and segue into tips on how to survive a zombie apocalypse?

LET’S PRETEND THIS NEVER HAPPENED (A Mostly True Memoir) is a hilarious account of her redneck childhood, anxious adolescence and ever-eventful life with her long-suffering husband and their daughter. Come along with Lawson as she tells about Jenkins, her menacing and reluctant pet turkey, about getting stuck in a cow’s vagina (and you thought your high school years were awkward), or working in HR (where she learned how to say “Is this your penis?” without giggling.) Her arguments with husband Victor—sometimes in her head, occasionally via Post-Its—are priceless. And the stories of her engagement and wedding are topped only by her story of giving birth.

“There’s something wrong with Lawson – magnificently wrong. I defy you to read her work and not hurt yourself laughing,” says NY Times best-selling author Jen Lancaster, and LET’S PRETEND THIS NEVER HAPPENED finds her at her irrepressible best.

My Take on the Book
This is a book that will keep you on your toes and laughing from beginning to end. There were so many situations and stories that were shared by the author that we'll keep you on the edge of your seat ( usually laughing) and make you want to come back for more. The author is definitely a great storyteller and has a wonderful ability of being able to bring her readers together, bringing out there experiences in many different ways ensuring with them things that have or have not worked in her own life. After reading this book I wanted to go check out her blog as well, and I found that her writing style in the book much of the time mirrors the way in which she writes on her blog too. This book is more than just humor but also brings out heartfelt emotion in many of the stories that were shared. This type of honest writing is exactly the type of writing that I enjoy reading. Well done!
