Book Review - Draw Plus Science

About the Book
Children learn with all their senses. This book is designed to help your child or student enhance science learning and literacy and discover the world around them through art activities in a fun way.

With an emphasis on observation and information, these drawing lessons are based on concepts which include Classification, Measuring and Recording, Life Cycles, Seasons, Variety in Nature, Climate, Adaptations, Inherited Traits, and Characteristics of Organisms.

Freddie Levin has been interested in the place where art and science meet since she began studying botanical illustration at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. She can often be found in her sunny studio happily painting the native wildflowers of Illinois.

My Take on the Book
If you have a child who loves to draw, learn scientific facts, and read, I highly recommend this book. It has excellent factual information about animals , plants and scientists. It has step by step drawing instructions for many plants and animals too. The instructions by the author are easy to read and follow.

Freddie Levin included information about famous people like Darwin and his fascination for finches and other birds. You will learn about Carl Linnaeus who created a system for classifying and naming all living things. These are just two examples of the people Freddie included in this book.

If you decide to choose this book, I would encourage you to include drawing pencils and erasers, lots of paper, and a nice folder for your young artist to store their work.
