My Take on the Product
My kids were very excited about the idea of having an ant farm in our home. My wife was a bit weirded out by the whole idea, but she came around after a few days. I had first seen this product at the 2012 Time to Play Holiday Showcase and I was interested to see what it was really like and how well it worked. When I received the Ant farm, I was interested to see that the ants are separate from the item, but the more that I thought about it the more it made sense. One thing that all consumers must keep in mind with this is the fact that you will need to purchase ants in the end because eventually they will perish. The company states that ants will survive from 1-3 months typically. When I received my first bath of ants, I was dismayed to find that they all were dead. We had a particularly hot spell and they did not make it in their journey. The company was great though and sent more and this time the majority survived,

When I placed the ants in their habitat they did start to build their home though tunnels and the like. My daughters enjoyed using the light to magnify the ants onto the ceiling as they thought it was super fun to see them large and I do have to say it was pretty cool.

As I mentioned the company stated that typically the ants will survive about 1-3 months. For me, my colony only survived about a month and I am not 100% sure why, but one on one they all started to die until there was only one left. This saddened my daughters, but what was nice was that the company does say that they can send additional ants and after you clean out the habitat you can start again.

All-in-all this was fun, and though I would have liked the ants to live longer than a month, it still was educational and entertaining to watch and live with the colony during this period of time.
