About the Book
According to Lisa Vaughn, she is in awe of the beauty in the world and wants to open children’s eyes to it as well.
Her new book, Once I Came Across, is a story about the creativity and power of God, highlighting specific instances in which God’s power is most evident.
The story follows a young boy as he realizes that everything from sunsets to ants could have only been created by God Himself. The book then urges children to have faith and realize that while God may be able to create life, He cannot force anyone to follow or have faith in Him.
“While God is all-powerful, He gave us the free will to make decisions for ourselves,” says Vaughn. “Only we can decide what sort of relationship we have with him.”
Having taught Sunday school for more than thirty years, the religious education of children has always been her passion.
Vaughn hopes to encourage families to sit down with the book and talk through their faith and relationship with God.
“I would love for more children to see how creative God is and encourage them to look for Him everywhere,” says Vaughn. “I would like for them, as well as their parents, to realize they have a choice regarding their faith.”

My Take on the Book
Lisa Vaughn has written a short and sweet story about God's creations in our world. As I read this, I thought how appropriate for a family or Christian education teacher to use this with their young children. To me, it is a springboard for further discussion with children about the amazing world God has created for us. Why not take a walk to look at the trees and flowers, the rivers , animals and plants?
Lisa Vaughn includes an ending using the message of John 3:16. See how that relates to your family.
