In any given family, adults aren’t the only ones with answers, and children aren’t the only ones with problems.
Shelli Smith, owner of Precision Air Drilling Services, Inc., Praxis East Olympic Weight Training Center and PraiseMoves Studio in her hometown of Grand Junction, Colo., is a proud grandmother of two. Over the course of her life she has learned the importance of hard work, perseverance and appreciating the wisdom of others, lessons she finds important and necessary to share with her grandkids. With the help of her new children's book, Grammy Goes Green, Smith intends to bridge the generational gap and influence readers to consider ways in which grandparents and grandchildren can teach and learn from each other.
Through her book, Smith wants readers to consider the role grandparents play in families and in society. Shaking up family role norms, Smith tells a story about how “Grammy” learns how to solve a problem with the input of her grandkids, demonstrating the need for interaction among all generations.
“Grandmas are important in today’s society with the shaping of grandkids,” Smith says. “Both grandkids and grandparents have similar problems and need the support of each other.”
Grammy Goes Green covers topics like the special relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren, the need for grandparents to play an active role in their grandkids’ lives, and the importance of parents using grandparents as a resource.
With her new book, Smith intends to remind readers why grandparents are such an integral part of the family, not only because of the fact that they have had more life experiences and therefore have learned more lessons, but because it is important that they play an active role in their grandkids’ lives.
“Sometimes grandmas are easier to talk to for grandkids, and grandmas have a little different perspective then parents,” Smith says. “Parents should take advantage of the resources they have in their children’s grandparents.”
My Take on the Book
Shelli Smith has certainly written a book to share with your grandchildren. I hope to share it with mine.
Shelli Smith made me ponder my talents. What am I sharing with my granddaughters? If I ask them, WHAT MAKES YOUR NONNA SPECIAL?" What would they say? I would enjoy to hear their honest answers.
So as Shelli reminds us, don't envy the talents of others, develop more fully the talents God has already give you. Share them with your grandchildren today and everyday. Enjoy this story with your grandchildren.
