DVD Review - Home Run Showdown

About the Movie
Twelve-year-old Lorenzo is having a rough time. He’s new in town and he didn’t make the cut when he tried out for Youth League Baseball…so he’s decided to start his own team! With the help of his new friends, Lorenzo has to convince washed-up minor leaguer Joey Deluca (Matthew Lillard, Scooby-Doo) to be the new team’s coach. But if Joey takes the job, he’ll have to go head to head with his arrogant ex-major league brother, Rico (Dean Cain, “Lois & Clark”), coach of the rival team. Can Joey shape this ragtag group of kids into champions? Will Rico’s dirty tricks finally get exposed? It will all get settled on the field at the Home Run Showdown!

Home Run Showdown also stars Annabeth Gish (“Pretty Little Liars”) and Barry Bostwick (“Spin City”).

My Take on the Movie
This was a fun family movie that reminds me some of the bad news bears (at least in some ways), but really is a story of determination to overcome adversity not only for the character of Lorenzo, but also for Joey DeLuca. Both have a journey that as a viewer of the movie you get to see and experience and it is through this journey that they grow and learn. The movie was fun, but also had a number of meaningful messages within it that brought out some great conversations within my home after we watched it as a family, and it can do the same for your own family. Good acting and character development throughout, which led to a movie that I am proud to have shared with the family!
