DVD and Book Review - The Gruffalo's Child

About the Book and DVD

In The Gruffalo's Child, the Gruffalo tells his child an extraordinary story of “The Big Bad Mouse,” warning her never to go in the woods alone because there is a terrible creature lurking there. Waiting until her father falls asleep, the Gruffalo’s Child sneaks out into the deep dark woods to see The Big Bad Mouse for herself. Along the way she runs into a snake, an owl, and a fox and discovers that while they have similar features to The Big Bad Mouse, they are, in fact, not him. Just as she is about to give up her search, she stumbles upon a tiny mouse. Cautious of her, the mouse listens to what the Gruffalo’s Child is looking for, and then decides to reveal his big bad secret!

My Take on the Book and DVD

What an enchanting story about a young Gruffalo and her father. Her father tells her of the Big Bad Mouse who lives in the forest and she wants to find out more. Her adventure leads her into the forest where she meets many creatures and of course the Mouse. She learns to be brave but also learns her father will protect her always.

The DVD which tells the story is wonderful . It really makes the story come alive. You can see the facial expressions and the story is enhanced with more details as the young Gruffalo searches for the Big Bad Mouse.

The illustrator has done a superb job in the book of depicting the events and emotions as our young Gruffalo ventures out in search of the Big Bad Mouse. It is a nice family story that I know you and your children will enjoy reading/ watching.
