Book Review - Alphabet Animals All Around

About the Book
Natalie Cohen takes a different approach to teach children their ABCs by creating a young wizard who gathers animals into the book through an alliterative rhyming spell. In “Alphabet Animals All Arounda” (ISBN 2970075105), readers travel through imaginative scenery with just a few flips of the page, exploring the alphabet as well as familiar and exotic animals in their own environment.

According to Nancy E. Walker of Foreword Reviews, “Alphabet Animals All Around is a nice addition to the market for young learners…Cohen’s picture book features ‘Aybicie,’ a young wizard who informs readers: ‘Around the world we’re going to roam and discover each animal in its home.’ Each spread focuses on alliterative words featuring one letter of the alphabet set to verse: ‘Squawking Seagull Skimming the Sea / Tardy Turtle Turning around a Tree.’ Whimsical illustrations of animals superimposed over colorful landscape photographs of the animals’ natural habitats provide visual interest…young children likely will find the animal pictures appealing. And they will enjoy finding the small animal silhouettes hidden among the pages of illustrated text.”

Cohen’s book is a fun and enjoyable adventure that both children and parents can partake in. “This book is meant to be read on many levels,” Cohen says. “Kids can become familiar with the alphabet and later increase vocabulary and reading skills using new sounds from the same letter. Parents enjoy the cool and contemporary design. At the end, the wizard asks the reader to play a game of saying the phrases five times fast. So it’s really playful and educational.”

Jennifer Still, an English teacher and parent in Central Florida, says “the images are a refreshing deviation from many other children’s books. And it is great for parents looking for engaging and visually appealing ways to promote language development.”

“[Children] will greatly enjoy looking at the pictures and will love reading the beautiful alliteration,” says Amanda Weber, parent and teacher at the International School of Geneva. “It is a fun way to learn and reinforce the alphabet.”

“Alphabet Animals All Around” is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.

My Take on the Book
This was a great book for the whole family! whether you're just starting the process of reading with your kids or not this book is a great alphabet book that has wonderful images that incorporate cartoons with real images so the images just jump off the page. We've been working with our nonstarter for one on knowing her alphabet in starting the reading process and she just loved this book. Her favorite of course was the M for marching monkey, as my daughter loves monkeys no matter what type of monkey they are.after reading this the first time my daughter has already asked for us to read together many more times as well and of course I am more than willing to comply! I highly encourage you to get this book for your family as I know it will also be treasured addition to your family library.
