Grow Your Own “Bloomin’ Berry Garden”

Everyone’s Berry Best Friend Returns in Two Fun-Filled Adventures Arriving on DVD March 6

Strawberry Shortcake is back just in time for Spring and is so sweet you will need two helpings! Touching the hearts of children for decades, this wildly successful franchise is back with two more magical tales, Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Brick Road and Strawberry Shortcake: Bloomin’ Berry Garden! First, Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Brick Road follows Strawberry and her friends as they retell the classic “Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Next, Strawberry Shortcake: Bloomin’ Berry Garden shows that it’s time for garden growing fun with Strawberry and her friends as they prepare for the Spring Flower Festival!

In “Bloomin’ Berry Garden” Strawberry and her pals prepare for the Spring Flower Festival. This fun feature will give parents a cheat sheet for earning their green thumb with easy gardening activities that they can enjoy with their kids. Tips will include the best time of year to plant berries, how often to tend to your plants, etc.

Pick Your Plot!
Picking the area that you want to start your garden on is very important. First, you need to find a place that you would like to have a garden. Using planter boxes is fine, but if you want to plant your berries in the earth, you need to check your soil. Your soil should have good drainage, be free from lead, and show signs of life (like weeds, worms, etc.). You can also condition your soil to make it more habitable using things like manure, compost and leaves.

Use Kid-Sized Gardening Tools
Little ones can’t join in on the gardening fun if all the tools are too big for them! Find tools that are durable (not flimsy and plastic, as these will break) and child-sized, this way your kids can truly be involved in the gardening process. If you can’t afford to buy special gardening tools for your children, try using common household items that will fit their hands well, like spoons and measuring cups.

When to Plant Berries
If you want to plant some strawberries in your garden, the best time to do so is in the early spring (late March or early April). The same goes for other most other berries, like raspberries and blackberries. Before planting any type of berries it is important to wait until the ground is thawed.

How Often Do to Tend to Berries
To make sure that your berries are as great as they can be, you need to make sure that you properly maintain them. First, make sure that you water you berries with at least one inch of water each week. Watering early in the day is better as it gives you plants a chance to dry before nightfall. You should also weed your berries by hand, as their roots are shallow, and using a hoe might disturb your plants.

Decorate Your Garden
Make your garden a fun and festive place to be! Make colorful stakes for each type of berry you plant, create a fun scarecrow to protect your bloomin’ berry garden, or make a cool path of stepping stones through the space to make sure no one crushes your delicate garden
