About the Book
Co-written by New York Times bestselling author Sheryl Berk and her nine-year-old daughter and cupcake connoisseur, Carrie, The Cupcake Club has the recipe for sweet success!
Carrie cooked up the idea of the PEACE, LOVE AND CUPCAKES series in second grade when she asked her mom, the bestselling co-author of Soul Surfer, to write a book that she could read. This dynamic writing duo both agreed the series should focus on fun, friendships and cupcakes – the perfect ingredients for tween readers. And the story of The Cupcake Club was born.
At Kylie’s new school, she is a bit of an outsider – she is unsure of herself around her classmates, constantly bullied by popular girl Meredith and has no friends. But that is all about to change when her drama teacher suggests she start a club – a baking club! Even though Kylie’s a little skeptical at first, she is willing to try anything to find her place at her school. First, she just needs to find some members…
In the first book of the deliciously sweet new series, Kylie and her band of social misfits not only learn the ins-and-outs of baking but also find a group of friends that accepts each other’s quirks with a bunch of laughs and yummy desserts along the way.
My Take on the Book
As a father of two girls I am always looking for great books that have a heroine (a female main character) that is a good role model for my girls. What I liked about this book is that it gives me the heroine that I was looking for, while at the same time giving me as a father and my eldest daughter laughs and many messages on friendship. On top of this the author intertwines some great food ideas (Yum... Cupcakes!) into the story itself. The story was fun, engaging and I can say that at least for my own daughter, she loved it!
