Double college savings and free shipping Friday @Upromise.com

In celebration of the season of giving, Upromise by Sallie Mae is wrapping up the season by contributing $1 for every new Facebook fan, up to $10,000, to the educational charity that receives the most votes.  Also in the spirit of giving, Upromise can save shoppers time and money last-minute shopping with double rewards and free shipping offers at hundreds of participating online retailers on Dec. 16.

“As a working mom of four, shopping for the holidays can be overwhelming,” says Melanie Feehan, blogger at TheCouponGoddess.com and Upromise member. “I like to find ways to stretch my budget which is why this year I plan to take advantage of the Upromise double rewards on free shipping day. I’ll save money on gifts and for my kids’ educations right from home!

Holidays are fast approaching and Upromise is here to help you give the gift of college with the following:

Give to others with a simple click.  Not only does Upromise by Sallie Mae help members save money for college for their own family or friends, now you can help raise money for one of three educational charities determined by the fans. Upromise will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to Reading is Fundamental, Junior Achievement, or the Boys and Girls Club of America for each person who clicks “like” at www.facebook.com/upromise and becomes a fan.

Give the gift of college.  Friends and family can contribute money for college into a 529 college savings plan.  For most 529 plans administered by Sallie Mae’s Upromise Investments, Ugift enables gift contributions to go directly to a child’s 529 college savings account.

Make your holidays memorable with gifts that not only don’t break the bank, but also add to it.  On Dec. 16, you can earn “twice as nice” cash back for college with more than 900 popular online retailers at Upromise.com.  Last year, Upromise members saved $12 million for college during the holidays by making eligible purchases through Upromise.com.

Shop with a rewarding card.  A recent Upromise survey revealed 41 percent of parents plan to shop with a credit card with rewards. Upromise World MasterCard card holders can earn 11 percent cash back for college on eligible online purchases through Upromise.com by Dec. 31, 2011.  Information about rates, fees, other costs and benefits associated with the Upromise credit card is available at
