Book Review - Healing Is a Choice: 10 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life and 10 Lies That Can Prevent You From Making Them

About the Book
The power to heal—physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually—is in God's hands. But the choice to be healed is ours. Everyone, at some level, needs healing. In this book, Stephen Arterburn outlines ten choices crucial to receiving healing and ten lies that can prevent us from making them. Readers will find the wholeness God desires for them in a practical and prayerful way through this book.

Now including the full workbook, this combined release emphasizes the fact that we must choose to let the hurt go and let the healing begin.

The book asks the participant, "Do you want to be healed?" If the answer is yes, then ten choices are provided to make the path toward healing a restorative experience.

My Take on the Book
Stephen writes in the introduction that when he originally published this book , in 2005, he was a strong advocate of marriage and believed that no matter what you need to move toward reconciliation if your marriage is in trouble. Stephen has gone through a divorce and consequently he has rewrote this book to help those not only with the devastation of divorce but also other losses in ones live.

The book is set up in ten chapters. Each chapter has a section which is the "choice" you can make and then the "lie" that can accompany that choice according to our thoughts and actions.

Several examples of this are as follows:

Chapter One: The First Choice: The Choice to Connect You Life

The First Big Lie: All you need is to heal is just God and me.

In Chapter one he illustrates the importance of finding trusting friends or relatives to talk to. Do not isolate yourself

Chapter Two: The Second Choice: The Choice to Feel Your Life

The Second Big Lie: Real Christians should have a real peace in all circumstances.

Allow yourself to feel your feelings and emotions. They are real and should not be held inside. For you to move forward you must allow those feelings to come to the surface and deal with them.

There are eight other chapters. Each one has examples of real people's lives and how they dealt with the issues. You will find opportunities to journal and look up appropriate scripture readings which support the chapter content.

I feel anyone who has experienced a loss and needs confirmation that the healing process is a journey will find this book helpful in a step by step process toward moving positively forward with their life.

This is a worthwhile book and Stephen asks you to write to him with feedback after you have read the book. You may be given even more insight as you communicate with him. The best part is that he has felt your pain.
