Book Review - The Gifted One: The Journey Begins

About the Book
Are you fulfilled? How can you find out? Would it take a change? The more the seasons change, the more we stay the same. This fall is the perfect time to experience a season of true magic, welcome change and improved wellbeing. Psychology expert, life-long educator and author of The Gifted One: The Journey Begins, Dr. Andy McCabe, has created a first-of-its-kind, self-help novel which draws from a source unknown to most professionals, as well as the general public. The book is designed to help readers identify feelings of lack of fulfillment, anxiety, depression and begin a journey of understanding life’s deepest mysteries. Once introduced to this knowledge, Dr. McCabe promises the reader will never be the same again and can never go back to his/her old patterns of thinking.

“We are at a critical time in national and world history and, if we do not change of our own accord, change will come about that will markedly impair the quality of our lives, as well as that of our children and grandchildren,” says Dr. McCabe. “Time for personal, national and local excuses is over. The Gifted One will help global citizens understand how they can help themselves, as well as our critically-wounded world, to heal and prosper.”

While most self-help books instruct readers how to live their life in five or ten steps, The Gifted One is presented in novel form. Readers experience character emotion – from fear to abandonment to elation – while being presented with valuable information that empowers and inspires them to change.

Dr. McCabe’s hero, City Bear, a down and out writer who meets a blind beggar, is tested on a Manhattan subway platform for his worthiness to meet and work with the world’s greatest healer—a man known only as The Gifted One. This man is believed by many to be only a myth or urban legend; however, he’s real and has been given a mission to train a man, a woman and a child to bring about world change… before it is too late.

City Bear’s experiences and challenges during his six days of instruction at a remote desert ranch in Arizona will provide insights guaranteed to provide readers with a clarity of understanding far beyond what they currently possess. The Gifted One will guide readers, who are willing to change their lives, to become the man or woman they always wanted to be…with no pretending.

For over a decade, Dr. McCabe has traveled the nation to meet and interview note-worthy experts in the fields of metaphysics, healing and religion. This experience provided him with the reservoir of information from which The Gifted One was developed. The Gifted One highlights the following themes:

1. Lies: Our illusions and certainties are often the source of our greatest problems and challenges. Many times what we were led to believe is true… is not! For example:

  • Seek and follow expert advice! Bernie Madoff was a recognized expert; however, he was also a liar.
  • Get all A’s in school and you’ll get a job! Not anymore!
  • Be a good company employee and you’ll retire with a pension. Thanks to some corrupt politicians and executives many retirements are disappearing.

2. Spirit theft: As children we learn to tell adults (mother, father, teacher) what they want to hear and not necessarily what we think! As adults it continues, many of us tell the power people in our lives what they want to hear. When we do it enough, we come to believe our own lies and lose our spirit. We become the walking dead.

3. Responsibility: The world is suffering economically, emotionally and spirituality for one reason: government, business, educational, spiritual leaders and even moms, dads and kids don’t want to take blame for anything. Nothing is anyone’s fault seems to be a politically correct mantra.

4. Recognize that the world we knew is not the world of today. Weather patterns, unprecedented earthquakes, floods, droughts, as well as economic and political uncertainty have created a climate of anxiety, tension and depression. How we learn to cope with the new world will determine our health and happiness, as well as that of those around us.

5. You Are the Answer: Change begins with you. Your actions will determine if the final product…your happiness and well being , as well as that of your family, friends and co-workers is reflective of your highest aspirations as you work toward healing yourself and our planet.

Dr. Andy McCabe has presented Stress Management Programs for educational, medical, law enforcement and corporate groups, as well as for the officers and crew of the United States Navy Aircraft Carrier Lexington.

In 1999, McCabe received by Psy.D. from Rutgers University, School of Applied and Professional Psychology, and was chosen as one of seventeen graduates, out of graduating class of approximately ten thousand for his special accomplishments.
