Ginny Owens - Get In, I'm Driving

About Ginny Owens

A three-time Dove Award winner, including the Gospel Music Association’s 2000 New Artist of the Year recipient, and multiple ASCAP Award winner, Ginny Owens has sold nearly one million albums. A top performer on the Christian radio charts with hits like “If You Want Me To,” “Free” and “I Wanna Be Moved,” among others, Owens’ music has impacted mainstream audiences at Lilith Fair, the Sundance Film Festival and the White House. Her music has received widespread film and television placement, including songs on the popular WB series’ “Roswell” and “Felicity.” Owens was featured on national television, including NBC’s “Today” and CNN, for her contribution to help rebuild New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

Born and raised in Jackson, Miss., Owens was discovering melodies on the piano almost before she could complete a sentence. Songs began to emerge from her fingers as the vision began to leave her eyes and by the age of three.  A degenerative eye condition left Owens completely blind. Despite her physical challenge, Owens pursued a music career. Songs provide a window into a world Owens can’t see and an outlet for her to express her thoughts and dreams. Owens’ unique musical style and inspirational lyrics continue to appeal to Christian and mainstream audiences alike.
In 2005 Owens launched The Fingerprint Initiative, a hands-on, non-profit organization designed to “bring hope to the world, one project and one touch at a time.” The organization has partnered with  and raised money for groups such as Compassion International, International Justice Mission and Habitat for Humanity.

My Take on the CD
The CD by Ginny Owens is composed of original selections of contemporary Christian music. The eleven songs consist of beautiful music and meaningful lyrics. Ginny has a beautiful voice and the clear dictation as she sings, makes it easy to understand the words and carry away with you the spiritual meaning.

I would like to give you a few examples of the songs on this CD:

GET IN , I'M DRIVING ~ Ginny sings of being a square peg in a round hole and often not knowing where she belongs. She learns that God made us all special with various talents that we need to celebrate. If we allow God to guide us (or as the song says "drive us"), we will learn what our future will hold. He is there if you ask Him for help and then you trust Him to know what is best.

BEFORE YOU FLY~ We often may feel overwhelmed with all that is going on in our lives. This song encourages us to never get up and to continue to persevere , even in the face of extreme challenges in our lives. The song tells us that often we fall before we can rise above our hardships or uncertainties. Don't be afraid to "spread your wings".

JOINED AT THE HEART~ Jesus is our refuge. God sent Him to be part of our lives and for us to accept Him in our hearts. Because Jesus came to Earth and became like us, He is within our hearts if we allow Him and welcome Him in our lives. We are joined with our heavenly Father because of Jesus. So if your life's journey is long and difficult , and you are anxious, call otr to Jesus. He is there for the asking.

DAUGHTER OF DESTINY~ In listening to the CD several times, this song became a favorite. This is a girl/woman's song about acknowledging the fact that we are beautiful, exceptional , and powerful. God is always there letting us know how very special we are and that we have amazing gifts to share. We need to celebrate us and share our strengths with those around us. We need to get rid of the negative and accentuate the positive.

THE SONG~ This is the last song on the CD. It tells of a person who is leaving their comfortable surroundings: the people they know, the neighborhood they live in, and follow God's calling. The song tells of having the courage to listen to your heart and make a change with confidence that God is watching over you and guiding you.

If you enjoy Christian music, I know you will find this CD one to add to your collection. There is so much meaning in the songs that are presented. I see this as a CD that can easily be used with our young people to help them realize that they are very special and Our Lord loves them very much.
