Dads dish on how fatherhood has changed

Fatherhood today is a lot more than handing out cigars in the hospital waiting room and doling out discipline after a day at the office. In honor of Fathers’ Day, Cozi explored what life is like for today’s dads with a recent poll.

In an open-endedquestion about how fatherhood today differs from generations past, 54%of dads said the biggest changes they observed involved shifts in parents’ roles: More moms are working, and parents are splitting household tasks more evenly, so dads are more involved in their children’s lives. One dad said, “Fathers are much more involved in their kids’ lives and activities, as well as home life. ‘Wait until your father comes home’ does not apply today.”

Of course, with both parents working and juggling home life and kids’ activities, today’s families are busier than ever—22%of dads said one of the biggest changes in this generation is that families are busier than before.

When asked about their biggest struggles, 72%of dads cited keeping the family organized as the biggest pain point.Dads are stepping up to the plate here, too: 25% are the main organizers in their families, and 85% said they are somewhat or very involved in managing the family’s schedule. When it comes to keeping the family on track, dads are digital all the way—their favorite organization tools are cell phones, electronic calendars like Cozi and computers.
