Book Review - When Zeke Hits the Slopes

About the BookZeke sets out on an adventure with the determination to succeed. He heads out full speed ahead. He finds out all too quickly that the sport of skiing is full of challenges, not to mention a crash involving himself, his equipment, and pride. Zeke is soon ready to try another sport on the snow; he is not a quitter. He once again heads out only to discover that speed is not his friend, and that children can behave badly at times. Zeke has a try, try again spirit. He gives this snow sporting one more try on a snowboard. To the top he goes and wouldn't you know-Zeke is able to conquer this mountain of snow after all.

My Take on the Book

The season is winter and Zeke the zebra wants to go skiing. He borrowed skis  and headed west to his family's ski shack.

Zeke arrives at the ski shack and quickly makes a fire to warm himself and then dresses in mittens, scarf, hat, boots, and of course his skis.

Zeke takes the ski lift to the top of the ski run. Fortunately  as he skis down a hill he  misses a hole in the ground and a pole, but he runs into a rock and a tree. He is so discouraged he returns to the ski shack. He decides he will pack  and return home, however upon arriving back to the ski shack, there is a package from his mother. Inside is a new sled. So Zeke takes the sled, which has rockets on the side, and finds a hill. He zips down the hill going faster and faster. Unfortunately he loses control and hits a building.

Zeke is so embarrassed . There are children watching him and they make fun of him.

Zeke decides to try something different and rents a snowboard. He rides to the top of the hill again. At first he had some challenges with the snowboard, but eventually he has success with riding the snowboard.
Zeke becomes so proficient that the children give him the name "the shredder". Zeke can perform flips and turns. He decides the snowboard is his niche as he returns back to his home.

Zeke never gave up. He tried many snow sports and finally  found one that met  his needs. Children can learn from this. They don't have to do everything their friends or family members want to do. They can find their own niche and be successful and happy.

Zeke never gave up and I feel that is a great message for our young readers. Plus it is one , as adults, we should foster in our children.

They need to find something they are happy doing!

A great story!
