Book Review - The Everlasting Season

About the Book
Daniel J. Brommer’s The Everlasting Season  is a powerful testament to the power of witnessing in influencing others and sharing the same spiritual fulfillment that you enjoy with others.  Brommer’s protagonist, Darren “Cam” Cameron, is a high school football player whose life is filled with God’s blessings.

Cam takes every opportunity to share his faith and influence others, using his position as a respected football player to help guide his team; “I’ve helped a lot of my teammates find God and it shows.  We don’t get down on each other when things aren’t going right in the games we play.  Most of us don’t swear or curse God when something goes wrong either.”  Cam states that he can “definitely tell” that he is “having a positive influence” on his teammates.  Before a game, Cam scribbles Psalm 100 on his wrist, knowing that it will be a good opportunity to witness when some of his teammates ask him about it.

When one of his teammates, Stonewall, has trouble dealing with the suicide of his uncle, who supported him in football and promised to come to all of his varsity games before his death, he sees his uncle standing by the goal post at his first varsity game.  He comes to Cam with his thoughts, rather than speaking to God directly, because he knows that Cam has a “great” relationship with Him.  Cam tells him that, “He’s always there to listen; you just have to talk to him.  He’ll give you the answers you’re looking for.”  When Cam prays to ask God about the peculiar vision of his friend and asks God if Stonewall is a believer, God responds; “As of five minutes ago, yes.  It looks like you had a lasting impression on him.

Through the story of Darren Cameron, readers are given the powerful message of the simple nature of positively impacting the lives of those around them.  Brommer offers an important lesson in the role of witnessing, which has no boundaries of age, a simple gift that the faithful have to offer those in their life and God.

My Take on the Book
Wow, this was a book that anyone would call inspirational. Though the commitment and perseverance to the sport as well as the overall accomplishments of the main character, you will be taken on a journey you will not soon forget!

As a reader you are transported into a very well written book that is full of great character development! I particularly liked how the author uses first person narrative to draw the reader in. Due to this style, I found that the book was a very quick read and one that any reader, young or old can both relate to and enjoy.

This book was an easy to understand, great read that will leave you both inspired and energized!
