Give Dad His Garage Back This Father’s Day

As you're planning your Father’s Day coverage, we thought you would be interested to know more than half (59%) of men said their garages are so cluttered that their car can’t even fit, according to a recent home organization study conducted by California Closets.

In light of Father’s Day, California Closets would like to give dad exactly what he wants – His garage back! This year, instead of a tie or nose clippers, with a few simple tips from California Closets, moms and the kids can surprise dad by organizing the garage.

Included below are a few tips families can use to clean the garage for dad, or for dads to try on his own.
  1. Remove – If you want to really organize from the ground up, take everything out, take a good look at the space you have and start from there.
  2. Throw Out – Get rid of the old and damaged. Decide what items are no longer useful, damaged, or have missing pieces and dispose.
  3. Group Items By Category - This ensures things are easy to find.  Sample categories include sports and recreational, garbage and recycling, lawn and garden, hardware and home maintenance and tools.
  4. Measure your car – When everything is out of your garage, pull in your cars and mark the floor where your car ends on all sides. You now know how much room you have for storage and your car to fit.
Also, with the right garage storage solutions, dad’s garage can become an extension of the home and the perfect place for hobbies, crafts, a workshop, a home office…or even the car!
