Book Review - Pretty Penny Sets Up Shop

About the Book
When the unique, forward-thinking Pretty Penny wants to throw her grandma Bunny a birthday party but
doesn’t have the funds to do it, she comes up with one of her famous great ideas: She transforms her grandmother’s treasure-trove attic into a Small Mall. With her sidekick—a pet pig named Iggy—by her side, Penny learns to price and sell items; collects, saves and finally gets to spend her earnings wisely, all while teaching your child how to do the same.

Fun, vivid illustrations provide a whimsical-yet-comical backdrop sure to captivate youth ages 4-8. “The series is designed to give children a solid foundation in understanding how money works,” says author Kinch. “And this book is a great first step.”

Pretty Penny Cleans Up this December, which teaches a simple do-it-yourself saving system that kids and parents can implement in their own home. Future books will delve into topics such as stealing, raising money for charity and budgeting.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
After having dealt with the weight of financial debt in the past, author-illustrator Devon Kinch hopes to help future generations avoid the same struggles by establishing a healthy relationship with money at a young
age. She received her Master’s degree in design from the School of Visual Arts and this is her first children’s book.

My Take On The Book
This book does a great job at teaching a child the value of hard work and creativity as well as financial responsibility. I also liked the idea that the book let's children come to understand the value of doing special things for others and placing others before themselves. These ideas are all things that are important to my wife and I and things that we would like our daughters to learn as they grow older.

The plot of this book was fun and both daughters asked for me to re-read the book numerous times which is the sign of a book that is a keeper. Both girls ended up remaining completely transfixed until the very end of the book.

On top of this, the book was full of amazing illustrations that assist to aid on the reading of this book. I know that if the following books to this series are anything like the original book, I will be looking for the next installment this coming December!
