Introducing Yoxi: New Voice for Social Change Launches First Competition

What if changing the world could be fun?  Internet and reality TV innovator Sharon Chang has the answer with Yoxi (pronounced YO-see, http://www.yoxi.tv/).  A new interactive competition and social game, Yoxi challenges teams of problem solvers to create and communicate unique solutions to pressing social issues.  Along the way, notable industry experts, marketing professionals and judges weigh-in, while an audience votes, comments and influences the competition online. In the end, the winning team receives the start-up funding to make their idea a reality.

Having worked closely with the creator of “American Idol” at 19 Entertainment, and as part of the original design team for the online video service Hulu, Chang has been a key player in two of the biggest game-changers in recent TV and Internet history.  “What I loved about ‘Idol’ was helping people make their dreams a reality,” Chang explained.  “Yoxi has a similar mission, but instead of singers, it’s solutions, and instead of TV, it’s online — which allows for new and unlimited possibilities in terms of audience participation and engagement.  Ultimately, Yoxi is a fun way to connect people and channel their passions for social good in a way that’s truly impactful.”

Yoxi competitions (four per year) will touch upon such topics as education, clean energy, recycling, and health.  Teams are currently facing off in the first competition entitled, “You Are What You Eat,” which challenges them to reinvent fast food.   There are no limitations as to what kind of solution the teams present.  It can be anything from a product, technology or device, to an ad campaign or a school, government or community program.

For each competition, teams will be coached by a panel of experts from their respective field.  The competitions will also feature notable judges.  For the first competition, judges include Food Politics author and university professor Marion Nestle, sustainable food pioneer, award-winning chef and cookbook author Michel Nischan, and Whole Foods Market Northeast Region President Christina Minardi.  The game also extends beyond the teams, experts and judges to an online audience.  By voting for teams and topics and participating throughout the competition, audience members can gain influence and steer the direction and results of current and future challenges.

Once chosen by the audience to advance to the final round, two teams will receive marketing support from top advertising agencies.  The winning team will receive a cash prize from $5,000 to $40,000.
