Book Review - No Good Deed

No Good Deed

About the Book
Gregor Maravilla doesn't want much. Just to feed all the starving children. That's why he goes to Camp Save the World, a summer program for teen activists who care about making a difference. What could be better?

It's almost perfect. Except some of these causes are kind of...strange. Like Eat Dirt--a campaign started by up-and-coming actress Ashley Woodstone. Gregor wasn't a fan of her work before, and he's certain she's only there now because of her fame. But Gregor is determinged to not let her ruin his experience.

And then the contest is announced. That's when the sabotage starts. They want to see who can do the most good. But that leads to the most bad.

No good deed goes unpunished.

My Take on the Book
My daughter goes to camp every year and it is something that she usually looks forward to. In this book you can tell that the main character is definitely excited about the camp experience that he is taking part within. What I loved about this book was that the characters were very well developed and real. You can truly see this happening in real life which makes the story that much more tangible. There are many parts of the book that bring out humor and the plot keeps the story moving at a fast pace. The author allows you to really get to know Gregor and Ashley but unfortunately does not build up a lot of the other characters. This does not make the story bad, but I would have loved to be able to get to know the other characters in that type of way. The only other thing that parents should know is that this is geared for middle school readers. The book says ages 14+ and that is because of language and references to sexual activity and girls' anatomy that are within the book. There are also some characters that use drugs and drink alcohol, so simply be aware and make sure that your child is ready for this in a book.
