Book Review - Sleep Tight, Anna Banana!

Sleep Tight, Anna Banana!
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Anna Banana can't settle down tonight, even though her stuffed animal friends are tired and just want to sleep. They suffer through delay after delay and excuse after excuse, until Anna Banana is finally sleepy. And then . . . it's time for their revenge! Anna Banana is about to get a taste of her own medicine.

Anna Banana is a fantastic character—a lively little girl and a fearsome tyrant to her stuffed animal pals. The first of two picture books featuring this character, Sleep Tight, Anna Banana! is sure to be a hit with the youngest of readers . . . and with their parents!

My Take on the Book
This is the perfect new bedtime story to share with your little one. There is so much humor in this story as Anna Banana reads in bed and her stuffed animals have had a busy day playing and just want to go to sleep. This story shows the frustration of Anna's stuffed animals and how they began to use their problem solving skills to show her how they felt. Once again the illustrator, Alexis Dormal, has created perfect illustrations to show the characters emotions.

One of the most humorous events in the story is the part in which the animals decide that they will keep Anna Banana awake. Their method is quite interesting and effective.

There is a happy ending to the story of course. Enjoy this delightful story!

Book Review - Anna Banana and the Chocolate Explosion

Anna Banana and the Chocolate Explosion
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Anna Banana is at it again!

The lovable tyrant from Sleep Tight, Anna Banana! is up to no good, and so are all of her beloved stuffed animals. In this adorable sequel to the 2014 picture book, Anna Banana and her stuffed pals set out to make a chocolate cake...and end up making a big, big, big mess.

With all the charm and whimsy that won reader's hearts in the first book of the series, Anna Banana and the Chocolate Explosion will give Anna Banana's fans more of what they love...and win over new readers.

My Take on the Book
This is a very humorous and creative story that you and your child will enjoy reading together. Anna Banana and her stuffed animal friends are hungry so they decide to make a chocolate cake. This is when the bedlam begins. You will have fun watching the chaos in the excellent illustrations by Alexis Dormal. The illustrator documented well the emotions and frustrations of the characters, especially Anna Banana.

Anna's bear Grizzler becomes the calm problem solver. You will love how he "saves the day". There is a happy peaceful ending to the story. Maybe you and your child will enjoy baking a chocolate cake after reading this delightful story.

Game Review - LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin

LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Game
There is a new threat in Ninjago, and he goes by the name of Ronin. With help from his army of dark samurai, Ronin steals the Ninjas' memories using an ancient weapon called the Obsidian Glaive. In LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin, it is up to players to help the Ninjas regain their memories and reclaim their powers before Ronin completes his plan and releases an even greater evil on Ninjago.

Game Features
  • Battle through iconic locales from the LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu TV series, including the Ice Temple, the Toxic Bogs and Chen's Island.
  • Uncover the secret behind the Obsidian Weapons, ancient yet powerful tools.
  • Defend Ninjago from well-known enemies, including the Serpentine, Nindroids and more.
  • Drive, fly, stomp and slide your way through levels with an exciting array of bikes, jets, mechs and even dragons!
  • Unleash an elemental tornado to smash your way through enemies and solve puzzles. Team up and create the multi-elemental Tornado of Creation!

My Take on the Game
We love the partnership that LEGO and Nintendo have and the games that they have created and thus we were very excited about this game coming out. We were excited not only because of LEGO, but also because it was Ninjago too.

In getting into the game itself. We had a blast trying this out. There was some great graphics and video interplay that let you better understand the game in general.

The story overall isn't too deep, but it does have some good laughs and it is original. I liked the vast amount of characters but I could see that if you did not know the TV series or the Ninjago characters in general that it might be a bit much to remember all of the characters.

The game has a ton of puzzles and such that you go through to get to the next level. Each level has some great open areas for finding studs as well as to unlock new characters. There are times when I found that I needed to replay the level to find everything, but I did find everything in the end.

The controls in the game varied from level to level. I liked that depending on the point in the level you were either on foot or in a vehicle. This made the levels fun and definitely different.

One of the final things I will mention is the length of the game. I found that the game itself was longer than other LEGO games, but this was definitely a good thing in my perspective. My girls and I had a blast playing this and I believe that you and your family will as well!

My Take on the Movie
My family loves animated films! I didn't know what to expect with this DVD, as I had never heard about it before. That being said I was impressed with the casting within the movie, so we were excited to check it out and experience it for ourselves.

Watching this with the kids, I first noticed that the animation and story were strong. That being said, the move was fast paced and fun and my kids loved watching this as did I.

This renewed my faith in non-big box animated films as it was great and definitely had a great message that was shared!

Book Review - The Barbour Bible Reference Companion

The Barbour Bible Reference Companion
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Open the door to better Bible study with The Barbour Bible Reference Companion! At 704 pages, it's big—but it's purposely designed for the average Bible student, not the expert. Featuring a dictionary, concordance, handbook, and explanations of Bible customs—with more than 200 full-color illustrations—this book is an all-in-one resource for everyday Bible study. Concise dictionary entries are combined with a select concordance of the most important verses, while a handbook of the entire Bible includes sidebars explaining the curious practices of ancient times. Maps and a complete index round out the volume.

My Take on the Book
For anyone that has struggled with passages in the Bible. For anyone that has wondered where places or people were, this book is an amazing resource for both. I found myself reading more and more and learning so much. Filled with amazing images and information, you are taken into the world in which the Bible shares and so much is cleared up. The book is written in a clear and straight forward manner, and I, for one, have to say that I was so impressed with the overall information that was being shared, as it is so much more than I would have first expected! All-in-all this was a great book that will help any church-goer with their understanding of the Bible too.

Quiddler Jr. by @set_game Encourages Using Words Early!

Quiddler Jr.

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Game
Set Enterprises’ MENSA award winning Quiddler game is now made especially for kids! With letter combinations specifically picked for early readers and game play worthy of wordsmiths this word game has something for the whole family.

Quiddler Junior meets players where they are; whether you are an early reader or a seasoned word lover you will have opportunity to have FUN with WORDs in this game. The colorful illustrations and kid-size words on the cards are inviting and instructional for the younger players and yet whimsical and entertaining for adults.
Quiddler Jr.

How to Play
Each Quiddler Junior card contains a letter (or letter group) and a point value; the challenge is to use all of your cards to form one or more words. After one player uses all their cards and “goes out” each of the other players get one more chance to make the best words they can. You earn the points on the cards you were able to form into words. Every round the number of cards dealt increases which
encourages more or longer words. Convenient point chips help keep track of the score until the end of the game. Earn a bonus for the longest word (or give a bonus for a word on this week’s spelling list). Fast paced and fun this game has the whole family playing together!

Quiddler Jr.

My Take on the Game
I am always looking for a great family game, and while I have tried other Set Games in the past, I had heard great things about Quiddler. This is the Junior version of Quiddler and it intrigued me, as I was wondering whether my seven year old would be able to play this by herself or not. In playing this, the cards are wonderfully made with great imagery and graphics and many colors that truly drew my youngest daughter in from the beginning. I came to find that she did need some help at first as only being in first grade had some limitations in regards to the breadth of her vocabulary. As we played though she got better and better and after a few rounds she had the hang of it. By the end of the game she was asking to play it again. This game really challenges you to think and be creative with your words as well as encourages your kids to learn more and more words in the end. This is a great game that I would encourage for all families!

The ReelCase ( @reelcase ) Helps You No Longer Miss Photos!

ReelCase

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

How did the idea of ReelCase come about?
Founder Zach Chavez was at a motorsport event and found himself constantly putting his phone away and taking it out to capture photos of the riders. This resulted in a lot of missed photos and videos. He instantly thought to himself how he could create a smartphone device that brought more convenience and accessibility to users. When he got back to his car, he began drawing sketches of a smartphone case. A lanyard integrated into a case seemed like the perfect idea.

When he brought the ReelCase idea to his buddy Dan Brandt, he too was highly intrigued by the idea. They decided to partner up and ReelCase was born. They began designing prototypes and with the help of a design team and a manufacturer began testing and modifying several different prototypes.

ReelCase

With all the smartphone cases on the market was sets ReelCase apart?
The unique difference point for ReelCase is the worlds first ever retractable lanyard integrated into the case. The retractable lanyard allows users to access their phone like never before. ReelCase is more than just protection for your smartphone, its a device that allows you to stay in top of your daily life without worrying about the trouble of finding and accessing your smartphone. There is so much we can do with our smartphones these days from mobile pictures, texting, games, internet, and accessing an array of applications, our smartphone is a necessity throughout our daily life. The mission at ReelCase is to provide easy access and convenience to smartphone users.

ReelCase

Could you tell me about the process of making ReelCase?
The process of making ReelCase has been our most difficult task to date. We started creating prototypes in our own homes first. We began by gluing retractable reels onto the back of smartphone cases to get an idea of how the ReelCase would operate and function. From there numerous sketches were drawn that showed the reel mechanism integrated into the case. With the help of an engineer we began to design more advanced prototypes. After developing our first functional prototypes and drawing CAD designs on the computer of what the final design would look like, we got in contact with a manufacturer who could begin the injection mold tooling for ReelCase. It took several different prototype variations and refinements from our manufacture but before long we had a functional Reel mechanism that worked gracefully. Getting the retractable lanyard to function correctly was the most difficult part of the process, but we just settled on our final prototypes that have been working outstanding.

ReelCase

What phones are the ReelCase compatible with right now?
iphone 5/5s

Do you plan to expand in the future?
yes we do. In the very near future we plan on beginning the tool for the iPhone 6 followed by the samsung models. We also have different products and variations to our product in mind. We want to create an attachable and detachable reel mechanism that can be put on the back of phones or cases. We also want to add a clip to the reel so you can attach it to your belt loop or other objects such as backpacks or purses.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with our community?
KickStarter is a great platform for launching products such as ReelCase. For those that don't know what KickStarter is, its a crowd funding platform where entrepreneurs go to post their ideas, inventions, and creations. The kickstarter community or crowd gives donations to the campaign in exchange for a reward such as a ReelCase t-shirt or case. KickStarter will allow us to cover funds we have not yet payed for such as the injection mold tooling and additional cases we make such as the iPhone6. So please get the word out there to everyone about ReelCase. Share our page, donate to our campaign, and help spread the love about our product. lets get ReelCase out into the market and into peoples hands so we can start changing the way we use our smartphones for the better.

Book Review - Tell Me What to Dream About

Tell Me What to Dream About
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Journey with two sisters into the world of dreams in this delightfully offbeat read-aloud bedtime story.

Little sister asks big sister to tell her what to dream about at bedtime, and big sister presents her with possibilities, such as eating a meal of teeny-tiny waffles with teeny-tiny animals, living in a furry world, and residing in a tree-house town. Little sister is wary of each idea, until together the girls hit upon the perfect dream.

Full of fantastic dreamscapes from each girl's point of view and quirky details that children will want to investigate again and again, this beautiful, irreverant title will inspire the imaginations of readers young and old.

My Take on the Book
Giselle Potter wrote a story of two sisters as they try to go to sleep. According to the author, her two daughters used to ask the same question: "what should i dream about" before going to sleep at night.
The big sister in the book tries to help the little sister by suggesting different topics which the little sister rejects.

There was an interesting dialogue between the the two sisters. It is refreshing to see the creative answers given by the older sister and her patience. The older sister persevered through all the rejections until they both fell asleep.

Book Review - The Notebook of Doom: Flurry of the Snombies

The Notebook of Doom: Flurry of the Snombies
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
It's summertime in Stermont! And it's...SNOWING?!

This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow!

In this seventh book, it's summertime in Stermont! Alexander, Rip, and Nikki are at summer camp up in the Gloamy Mountains. And it is REALLY hot! But suddenly, it starts snowing - and with the snow comes the snombies! Snombies are snow monsters that can build armies of themselves! Will the S.S.M.P. be able to stop their coolest monster yet?

My Take on the Book
Troy Cummings has written a chapter book at a reading level of grade two . The subject matter would appeal to first through third graders.

This is an adventure story with lots of fantasy included in the text. As Alexander, Pip, and Nikki attend a week of summer camp, strange noises and events occur. The blockhead ice crusher is out to devour the campers. He uses snombies to assist him in his evil crime. However the campers prove they are smarter. (your child will learn that salt will melt snow and ice).

There is much action and adventure for the campers. The main characters prove to the reader and themselves that they can problem solve as a team. A happy ending comes about for the campers but not the snombies and blockhead ice crusher.

DVD Review - Penguins of Madagascar

Penguins of Madagascar
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Movie
Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private join forces with undercover organization The North Wind to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine from destroying the world as we know it.

My Take on the Movie
This was a movie that made our whole family laugh out loud. We have watched it three times already and we continue to find more humor every time we watch it. My girls simply love the penguins and what the penguins bring to the screen. The movie has some great messages about family, teamwork and more and while some of the humor is adult-centered, there is much that is definitely geared toward kids. This is a family friendly film that I whole-heartily recommend!!
