About the Book
It all started at the carnival...That s where Joey makes a new friend: a bright yellow balloon. Joey and his beloved balloon do everything together, until the balloon accidentally slips off Joey s wrist and flies far, far away. What will Joey do without his special friend? Tiffany Papageorge has crafted a poignant tale of love, loss, and letting go that will serve as a comforting guide to children who are navigating the complicated emotions of grief. Rich, luminous illustrations by Erwin Madrid perfectly capture these timeless themes, making them accessible to even the youngest reader. Honest, unflinching, and ultimately reassuring, My Yellow Balloon will resonate with anyone who has endured the darkness of grief, while offering hope for brighter days ahead.

My Take on the Book
Wow this is a wonderful story to read to children, but adults will receive something from it too. It is a story about loss. Joey is a young child who loves his yellow balloon and they do everything together. One day the balloon gets away from Joey and is lost forever. The reader will see Joey's emotions through the illustrations by Erwin Madrid. HIs loss feels so great to him he succumbs to the great sadness inside of him. Like all losses time begins to heal Joey, and he begins to remember his balloon friend with love and happiness.

We cannot prepare our children for losses in their lives. All we can do is when a loss occurs: a pet, a friend, a family member, a toy, to be there for them and give them support for their feelings and questions.

Tiffany Papageorge, thank you for this sensitive and thought provoking story to share with our children.
