About the Book
You're not gonna taste this little beignet! In this confectionary folktale adaptation, a lonely baker gets his wish when he sprinkles magic sugar on a beignet and it comes to life. The little beignet boy runs away but is in danger of being eaten by the hungry people of New Orleans. He leads a wild chase through the French Quarter, visiting famous sights along the way. This delightful book, with wacky illustrations and a sassy refrain, will run straight into readers' hearts.

My Take on the Book
As you read this story, you will recall the story of the Gingerbread Man. It is similar to that except the main character is a beignet which is a square shaped doughnut with powdered sugar on the top.

A baker befriends a man who needs a drink and becomes owner of some magical sugar which he uses to make his beignets. When one comes to life and runs away, a series of individuals try to catch him,

If you have visited New Orleans you will be familiar with many of the places that the runaway beignet runs through. He finally stops at Jackson Square and two pigeons assist him in returning to his baker friend.

It is a story that is fun to read and the rhyme the runaway beignet repeats is similar to the repetition by the Gingerbread Man. Enjoy!
