Down and Out in Bugtussle: The Mad Fat Road to Happiness

About the Book
Our favorite Southern belle is back and feistier than ever! When fictional character Graciela “Ace” Jones hit the scene back in 2011 in Diary of a Mad Fat Girl, the self-published, e-book release that New American Library then published in paperback, Southern women䃅s fiction was forever changed. New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Stephanie McAfee was crowned a “new fiction sensation” (USA Today) and quickly released her second book Happily Ever Madder last fall. We are happy to announce that our favorite sassy, Bridget Jones-esque Ace Jones has one more story to tell in the third and final installment of the Misadventures of a Mad Fat Girl series: DOWN AND OUT IN BUGTUSSLE: The Mad Fat Road to Happiness (NAL Trade Paperback Original; July 2, 2013; $15; ISBN: 9780451239907), and its sure to be the best yet.

When her dream life in Florida with her now-ex-fiancé goes south, so does Ace—she moves back home to Bugtussle, Mississippi, and into her late Gramma Jones䃅 little house. But even though her best friends, Lilly and Chloe, are thrilled that she's returned home, not everything is smooth sailing. Ace wants her job back as art teacher at the high school, but the beautiful Cameron Becker has no plans to relinquish that position. Although Ace wants to run Miss Becker out of town, she accepts a job as a substitute teacher. On top of her job woes, Ace's friends keep setting her up on blind dates when all she really wants is for people to stop meddling in her love life.

In her quest to find inner peace, Ace takes up gardening and discovers old love letters in her grandmother's well-worn gardening book. With her faithful chiweenie, Buster Loo, by her side, Ace is determined to get to the bottom of her Gramma's secret life, all while hoping her own doesn't implode.

About the Author

Stephanie McAfee was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and now lives in Milton, Florida, with her husband, young son, and chiweenie dog.

My Take on the Book
This was a hilarious book! There were parts of this that kept me laughing throughout the book. Many people have been alluding that the main character in this book and this author should be equated to Janet Evanovich, and though they are different, I see some similarities. The main character herself gets into trouble much like Stephanie Plum, and you get some of the great characters that you have in the Plum series as well, just with a southern twist. That being said though, the book stands on its own and does a fine job at that as it is. I for one was impressed, and am hoping that there will be more novels in the future from this author and with these characters!
