Sierra magazine interviews Josie Maran and Danny DeVito!

Climbers at heart, the five photographers profiled in the March/April issue of Sierra magazine know how to anticipate and capture the crux of any dramatic ascent.  Viewed safely from the ground, “High Art” is a breathtaking collection of images to heights few have ever reached, as presented by the official magazine of the Sierra Club.

Sierra goes to Hollywood!  Supermodel Josie Maran talks about her eco-friendly makeup and shares her best tip: “Less is more.”  Danny DeVito, television and movie star, speaks for the trees, revealing to Sierra why he took the role of the Lorax, “I read it to all three of my kids. It’s a wonderful story about morality and sustainability.”

It is never too soon to start planning an adventure!  Sierra Club Outings just released its2013 winter and spring international trips. Interact with aboriginal elders on the wild island of Tasmania, spend Holy Week with the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyon, or simply take in new culture and cuisine with a local.  Rest assured everyday life won’t be the same when you return.

In West Virginia, mountain-top removal coal mining is disturbing even the dead.  Families are being denied access to burial grounds and hundreds-years-old cemeteries are being bulldozed.  Daniel McGlynn visited the Appalachian Mountains to find out how folks are fighting to protect their families’ final resting places.

The Green Life wants you to say cheese!  Mainstream cheese is inefficient fare: Almost 10 pounds of milk are needed to make a typical 1-pound wheel! Sierra found five brands that take sustainability into account.  Steve Casimiro reviews the best photography gizmos and accessories strong enough to withstand the elements.
