Book Review - Jump into Literacy: Active Learning for Preschool Children

About the Book
Leap into Literacy combines children’s love of active games with over one hundred lively literacy activities. Written by a well-known children’s movement specialist, these joyful games will engage the whole child in moving and playing as a way to develop the literacy skills needed for reading and writing.

Each activity is complete with a literacy objective, materials list, instructions, and extension activities. Most of the activities include suggestions for related music and children’s books. From “The Alphabet in Action” to “Floorwriting” to “Follow That Letter,” the activities in Leap into Literacy bring the classroom to life!

My Take on the Book
As a parent of both a school age and pre-school age child, I am always looking for books that will push my girls to learn more about the things that they will need to be successful in school. In this book I believe that I had found a valuable tool and resource that will do just that! The book is full of great learning activities for the preschool age child. What was nice about this book was that it breaks the activities down into skill areas. This along with the way in which it was written makes the book a valuable teaching tool. The activities challenge the child and the explanation in the book makes the activities easy to follow and to implement. Showing to my wife who was a past elementary school teacher, she was impressed and said that the lessons it contains were great for the young child and as a teacher she appreciated the way in which it was written as it did sell out the most important points and allowed the teacher the leeway to be able to follow or augment as they saw fit too. Overall, this was a great book with amazing learning and teaching resources held within!
