Book Review - The Last Martin

About the Book
Thirteen-year-old Martin Boyle has enough to contend with: a germophobic mom who keeps him from school at even the hint of a sneeze; a gym teacher who is out to get him; and his crush, the stunning Julia, who won’t even give him the time of day. But in THE LAST MARTIN (Zonderkidz; April 2011; $14.99), Martin must also wrestle with the fear that his days may be numbered. After a family trip to the cemetery, Martin discovers that every time a new Martin Boyle is born, the previous Martin dies. Imagine his horror when he learns that in twelve weeks his aunt will give birth to a baby boy—to be named Martin!
Martin has made it his mission to end the family curse before it’s too late. Will this precocious teen find a way to prevent his presumed fate? Or will he fall prey to the same misfortune as the Martins before him? Find out in THE LAST MARTIN, the newest novel from the author who brought us the equally mystifying young adult read—Jerk, California.

My Take on the Book
This book is a great read. The characters are so quirky and in many cases, hillarious! You go from having a mother who has every know phobia to Martin hmiself, who you just want to reach out to and encourage and support.

The book is fresh, and allows the reader to read through this quickly. I know that for me, I couldn't put thebook down and was able to plow though it in only a few days. There are many parts within the book where you will simply laugh out loud at how crazy the world in this novel is, but even though it is crazy, it is endearing and you want to immerse yourself in the world.

The book is definitely fiction and there are some parts that may seem over the top, but what good young adult novel isn't. This book is a great read and one that I am looking forward to having my daughter reader in the future.
