Book Review - Jane Was Here

About the Book
In a thriller that centers on the world of reincarnation, JANE WAS HERE explores what happens when a mysterious young woman calling herself Jane turns up in a small New England town. She claims a fragmentary memory of growing up in this place, yet she has never been here before in her life. Upon her arrival, strange and alarming things begin happening to some of the town’s inhabitants. As Jane’s memories reawaken piece by piece, they carry her back to a long-buried secret, while the townspeople hurtle forward to a horrific event when past and present fatally collide. Kernochan, who based the novel on experiences in her own life, poses the question, “What if someone could uncover a deed they themselves perpetrated 150 years ago, and finally tell the truth?” In a race against time to solve a mystery that is centuries old, Jane must also protect herself from a killer who may be inhabiting her present day life.

About the Author
Sarah Kernochan has won two Academy Awards for her documentaries Marjoe and Thoth. As a screenwriter, she has written many films, among them Nine and ½ Weeks, Impromptu, and What Lies Beneath. She also directed her film, All I Wanna Do starring Kirsten Dunst and Rachael Leigh Cook. JANE WAS HERE is her second novel. She lives in New York City with her husband, director James Lapine.

My Take on the Book
This book was a thriller from the beginning to the end. As a reader you are kept on the edge of your seat wondering what will come next. With a complex plot that is filled with many amazing components like reincarnation, sex, poverty and urban distress, this book is much more than the thriller that it it, it is a book that looks at the ills of society from both past and present weaving a present tapestry for all to read and appreciate.
