Book Review - The Game Behind the Game

About the Book
Millions of Americans wake up to the voice of Russ Parr, popular host of The Russ Parr Morning Show, currently heard in over 45 cities nationwide, and begin their day with his hilarious diatribe on every subject imaginable.  Already a feature film producer with several successful films under his belt, fans will now be thrilled to learn Russ also has a new book being released April 1st, The Game Behind the Game: Mastering the Art of Bull**** (Farrah Gray Publishing), that is a virtual how-to-succeed book unlike any published today!  Parr takes the serious subject of unemployment and applies his unique and humorous style to show what it really takes to become a success.  In his no-holds-barred approach he shares what needs to be done to impress a boss and move ahead in the world of business – whether looking for a job, keeping a job, or moving up the corporate ladder – he’s got it all covered!

Loved by fans because he’s not afraid to speak his mind, this successful radio personality uses his long career as a comedian and entertainer, together with examples gleaned from his popular morning show, to bring new life to the standard rules of the business game.  Often recounting the foibles of unfortunate characters, Parr shares with readers what they should not do to succeed, as well as sharing stories from his riveting journey and ultimate ascent to the top of the national airwaves.

Doing things differently seems to be Parr’s trademark and his book is no exception as evidenced by his suggestions on ‘how to talk BS’ and how to ‘play the opposite’ of what people expect; merge this with his heartfelt belief in the ‘power of negative thinking’ –  and you have it all in his move-by-move blueprint for success!  No matter what the reader’s career aspirations may be, Parr shows how to be victorious with a long term strategy while leap-frogging competitors who play the success game with a short term vision.
In this part-motivational, part-biographical account, Parr breaks all the rules as only an uncensored Russ Parr can with his humorous, urban style that believes “the world runs on BS and if you want to be cash-checking (making money), you might need to pucker up for a little old-fashioned a** kissing.”

Before becoming one of morning radio’s most listened-to celebrities, Russ was a stand-up comic in Hollywood opening for Joan Rivers, and later making television appearances on Martin Lawrence and Jenny Jones shows.  But for the past ten years, Russ Parr has been the popular host, animated emcee and the driving force of The Russ Parr Morning Show that boasts more than 3.2 million listeners nationwide.  The story of Parr’s awe-inspiring rise to success as a celebrated radio disc-jockey, and now author, is nothing less than a remarkable demonstration of persistence, patience, and strategy.

My Take on the Book
I have listened in on Russ Parr's show in the past and have found it to be very in-your-face, honest and to-the-point. This book follows the same type of idea. I loved the way in which the author shares his "rules." Each Rule goes in deep and the author lays it all on the line. He does not let anything stay in the shadows and is completely honest about his thoughts and ideas, as he does in his own radio show as well.

I also liked that each chapter / rule was so easy to read and that I was amazed at how quickly I was able to plow through the book itself. I started the book this past weekend and was through it in only a day, it was that good!

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy straight talking and an author that will completely set you in your place!
