Book Review - Why Am I Me?
About the Book
Presented as a thoughtful, poetic exchange between two characters -- who don't realize they are thinking and asking the very same questions -- this beautiful celebration of our humanity and diversity invites readers of all ages to imagine a world where there is no you or me, only we.
If the first step toward healing the world is to build bridges of empathy and celebrate rather than discriminate, Why Am I Me? helps foster a much-needed sense of connection, compassion, and love.
My Take on the Book
This is a book that brings together a book that uses images to tell a story that is very important, deep and meaningful. While there are not a lot of words, the book shares a lot about issues of race, identify families and more! The book is a great introduction to these topics and makes you think about their topics in a whole new way. This is a book that I would encourage all to read!

Book Review - Twice Upon A Time: Rapunzel, the One With All the Hair
About the Book
Rapunzel is having the ultimate bad day. She's been stolen by a witch, may have a ghost for a roommate, and doesn't even have a decent brush for her hair.
Prince Benjamin's got it pretty tough, too. His father wants him to be more kingly, his mother wants him to never leave her sight, and his cousin wants to get him into as much trouble as possible (possibly with a troll).
Both Rapunzel and Prince Benjamin are trapped--in very different ways. Once their paths cross, well, that's when things get really strange.
Journey back to the days when fairy tales were true with this fun and fresh spin on a timeless tale!
My Take on the Book
This was a great book that gives you a fun story with great characters, humor, action and more! My daughter and I just finished reading and I have to say that we loved it! The story had a ton of great characters and my oldest daughter loved that Rapunzel was going through so many things that a typical teenager would go through! There were definitely points in the story that made us laugh and also it was a ton of fun to watch what would happen as the story progressed and we were not disappointed!

Book Review - The Incredible Magic of Being
About the Book
Some might say Julian is sheltered. But he lives large, and his eternal optimism allows him to see infinite possibilities wherever he looks.
Despite his optimism, he is anxious about his stressed family falling apart. Even his ability to "uni-sense" what's happening with his sister is gone. If he can make his family focus on the magic in the universe, surely they'll appreciate life again. Now that they are moving from Washington, DC, to rural Maine, Julian can use his beloved telescope without any light pollution. He can discover a comet, name it for himself, and show his family how they're all truly connected.
As Julian searches the night sky, he encounters a force that may drive his plan apart. His neighbor, Mr. X, could bring an end to his parents' dream of opening their B&B. Could one negative force unravel everything? An avid student of science, Julian understands that there is much about the universe that we don't yet know. Who is to say what's possible and what's not?
My Take on the Book
My girls love to read and my almost 13 year old and I both read this and we loved the way in which the book has something for readers of all ages. My daughter mentioned that there were things about the main character Julian that she could relate to, which is always a good sign in the life of a pre-teen. The book captures what it is like to uproot yourself and move to a new place. The author also has fully developed the characters within the book into ones that you will love to get to know. This was a well written book that is current and a great read!

Book Review - Who Killed Darius Drake?
About the Book
In award-winner Philbrick's new page-turning mystery, Arthur "Bash Man" is the school thug, paid with candy to bully and threaten other students. When genius orphan Darius Drake employs Arthur to help him discover the origin of a suspicious threat, written in blood, they uncover a mystery that involves Darius's estranged grandfather, who was imprisoned for forging evidence in a search for a long-lost diamond necklace worth millions. The boys make the dangerous decision to search for the jewels themselves -- and in the process, they discover that the car crash that killed Darius's parents was not an accident at all. Who will be next?
My Take on the Book
My daughter love a great mystery and you get just that in this fun book. The author does a great job at keeping you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end as you try and determine who did it. There is a great mix of clues, mis-directions and more as you go through this book, but in the end you are brought on a fun ride for any reader. You also get a great mix of characters. The author has really developed the characters well and the relationships between characters really move the story along.

Book Review - Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! It's Shoe Time!
About the Book
Bryan Collier turns the closet on its heel and redefines what it means to be a pair.
My Take on the Book
This is a cute story for a young child. There is humor and learning within this story. Your child will learn about the left and right foot, how shoes match, and what the word "pair" means. The humor happens between the talking shoes and the narrators which are a pig and an elephant. There is some drama when a pair of shoes feel left out because they are not chosen, but in the end the reader will see why the little girl mixed the shoes she was going to wear when she met her father.

Book Review - The Handbook
About the Book
There's nothing Jake likes more than some good trash-picking, so when his elderly neighbors move out and leave an especially promising-looking pile of household refuse on the curb, he goes right for it. He only has the chance to grab one box before his mom catches him and orders him in for dinner, though.
When mysterious goings-on begin to occur in the neighborhood, the trio investigates the hidden box from Jack's garage. In it, they find the Secret Parent's Handbook and with it all the means to subvert the irrational rules and petty tyranny of their home lives. No more clean rooms! No more vegetables! No more brushed hair or washed hands! It's all videogames and junk food all the time!
But the authorities -- and the resistance -- have taken notice of the strange goings-on in Jack and his friends' neighborhood. And they are closing in . . .
My Take on the Book
The chapter book has an interesting story line of three friends and their families as they encounter the rules of their parents and try to survive being 12 and it is summer, a summer of lots of free time and too many rules. Jack finds a book called THE SECRET PARENTS HANDBOOK in Mr. Wallace's garbage. The three friends realize that this is a book their parents use on them with advice for "controlling" children. The three friends realize they can use the book to change their parents behavior and this is where their adventure begins. They meet the challenges of their parents and a secret group who administer consequence to adults and children to do not conform using the book. As Maggie fools everyone with her intelligence and the friends convince their parents to join them in destroying the secret group, everyone decides that loving your children is the best way to live your life.

My Take on the Book
This is a delightful picture book for young children. The story rhymes and the illustrations are bright and colorful. This is a funny story about a farmer trying to wake up his sheep. He tries many methods but it is not until he adopts a dog that he learns that gentle nudges are better than being loud and forceful. It is evident that some problem solving works better than others. Book Review - Born Free: Bear Rescue: True-Life Stories
About the Book
Discover the stories of wild animals around the world that have been saved from a lifetime of cruelty and suffering.
The Born Free Foundation's mission is to protect many different species in their natural habitats, working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together peacefully. In this book, children will meet Mollie, Georgia, and Louisa, three bear cubs stranded by terrible floods. Now, it's up to Born Free to face raging flood waters in order to save them! Parents will be intrigued by these books as they recall the movie Born Free and the story of Elsa, the orphaned lion cub brought up by Joy and George Adamson (portrayed by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna in the movie and the founders of the Born Free Foundation) and released back into the wild. Children will be inspired as they read how Born Free comes to the rescue even as they learn about life, compassion, and making the world a better place.
My Take on the Book
Here is another wonderful nonfiction story about the efforts of humans to rescue wild animals and allow them to enjoy a healthy and happy life. Three baby bears, Mollie, Georgia, and Louisa were orphaned in the Republic of Georgia (near Russia). There are challenges for the humans as they try to feed them and help the animals acquire the needed weight to be transported to an animal preserve in Greece. Another challenge was introducing the animals to each other so they could live in the same area. With patience the bears are living with fresh food , water, and safety in their new home. The reader will enjoy not only the story, but beautiful photographs of the bears , and facts about bears. Thanks for the Born Free Foundation and other animal groups, these bears and other animals are given another chance to live in an open environment safely.
