Tippi Hendren Receives the "Who-Manitarian of the Year" Award at Universal Hollywood's GRINCHMAS Celebration!

With the presentation of the “Who-Manitarian of the Year” award to actress and animal activist Tippi Hedren, the announcement of this weekend’s “Max to the Rescue” Pet Adoption Fairs, the lighting of the whimsically-twisting “Grinchmas” tree” and the participation of over 100 Los Angeles school children, Universal Studios Hollywood heralded the beginning of its annual holiday “Grinchmas” extravaganza which begins this weekend (Saturday, Dec. 11 and Sunday Dec. 12) and continues daily from Dec. 18 through Jan. 2, 2011.

The Golden Globe-winning actress, who starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s Universal Pictures classics, “The Birds” and “Marnie,” is also known for her extensive animal rescue efforts at Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre wildlife habitat which she founded in 1983 and supports through her non-profit Roar Foundation.

Grinchmas” will feature nightly tree-lighting ceremonies, celebrity readings of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” and encounters with a “Who’s Who” of Whoville characters and tons of fresh snow.  “Grinchmas” will also provide fans of the blockbuster movie a close-up view of the original “Whoville” film sets, featured in the classic “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” aboard the world-famous Studio Tour.  As the tram rolls to a stop amid the fanciful “Whoville” buildings, guests will experience a one-of-a-kind performance by “Whoville’s” residents re-enacting favorite scenes and songs from the film.

Aboard the Studio Tour, guests will pay a special visit to the Grinch’s Lair, where they will find themselves on a quest to help the Grinch and Max the Dog return the stolen gifts to Whoville.  A new feature to this year’s “Grinchmas” event, the Grinch’s Lair will send guests spiraling through snow drifts towards Mt. Crumpit as they join with the Grinch to restore “Grinchmas” to Whoville.

This weekend (Dec. 11-2), Universal Studios Hollywood has partnered with the Amanda Foundation and the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services to stage two “Max To The Rescue-Have A Heart Pet Adoption Fairs in an effort to place pets into loving homes this holiday season.  The adoption fairs—to be “hosted” by the Grinch and his faithful dog, Max—will be held at the front entrance of Universal Studios Hollywood from noon to 4:00 p.m.  There is no charge to attend the “Max To The Rescue - Have A Heart Pet Adoption Fairs.”

More information, including holiday promotional offers and information regarding celebrity readings of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” will be available at www.UniversalStudiosHollywood.com.  “Grinchmas” is included in the price of theme park admission.

Guests who attend Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Grinchmas” celebration will be able to purchase the “Buy a Day, Get 2011 Free” annual pass, a tremendous value allowing them to visit Universal Studios Hollywood throughout the coming year.
