Peep and the Big Wide World

The Emmy-Award winning preschool science and math series PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD returns for a new season on January 3, 2011 with 25 episodes never before seen on public television (check local listings). Narrated by comedian Joan Cusack, and produced by WGBH and 9 Story Entertainment in association with TVOntario and Discovery Kids, the series tracks the adventures of Peep, a newly hatched chick, Chirp, a smart and sassy robin, and Quack, an irascible, endearing duck.

The season kicks off with the arrival of a new duck in the episodes “Quack Quack” and “One Duck too Many.” Best known for her work on the NBC hit series Will and Grace, Megan Mullally lends her voice as an obnoxious duck who takes all she can from Quack, including his lunch, his pond, and even his name! Exiled from his home and forced to crash with Beaver Boy, Quack enlists the help of Peep and Chirp in a quest to get his life back.

In, “Big Bird/Chirp Flies the Coop,” Chirp has met a real, live, capital “R” Robin—Oscar winner guest star Holly Hunter—who can sing, build nests, take baths, and fly! Should Chirp go south with Robin, or stay and face another dreary winter?

Peep, Chirp, and Quack’s adventures continue across the 25 episodes as they explore the big wide world. In “Peep’s Moon Mission/The Many Moons of Quack the Duck,” they argue over whether the moon is perfectly round or more like a half-eaten peach. (Quack insists that there are, in fact, many moons of different shapes.) In “Dry Duck Part 1 and 2,” something fishy is going on when Beaver Boy moves away and, strangely enough, Quack’s pond dries up. In “The Tooth, the Whole Tooth” and “Nothing but the Tooth/The Winter of Quack’s Discontent,” Beaver Boy has lost a tooth (can you still be a Beaver with only one tooth?), and Quack struggles with the winter blahs. (His pond is covered with ice, Beaver Boy won’t play, and the fish...hey where did his fish friends go?)

“We’re excited to bring 25 more episodes of PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD to public television,” says Executive Producer Kate Taylor. “More children will be able to enjoy the adventures of these wonderful characters, and learn about science and math in their own world.”

The series follows the adventures of Peep, Chirp, and Quack as they explore everyday science in a large urban park. Each half-hour episode contains two animated stories highlighting specific science or math concepts, plus two live-action segments of real kids exploring science and math in everyday places. Additionally, all PEEP episodes are packaged with 7-minute POCOYO shorts. The perfect companion for PEEP and its audience, the BAFTA Award-winning animated POCOYO tells the charming story of a curious young boy and his animal friends, and encourages preschoolers to learn through laughter and play.

And for Spanish-speaking preschoolers, PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD brings its animated stories, science, and the wonders of the natural world every weekday morning on V-me and 24/7 on PEEP’s website, www.peepandthebigwideworld.com
